One last hug with one of the siblings before leaving the breeder:

Slept through most of the drive home:

Explored the backyard a little bit, played with the leash:

Went into the crate totally by himself and slept there:

Still not 100% decided on the name, but almost there.....
Just over 8 weeks. 15 lbs.
Lots of fun ahead :)

Unexpectedly, he seems to be crate trained.

The breeder said she had started putting him into the crate just a day or 2 before we picked him up, and at our place when he feels like taking a nap - he just goes into the crate and sleeps there. We didn't prompt him even once. He saw it, and just went inside.
On one hand - great, I guess.
On the other hand - a little disappointing, I was hoping for a hugger who would eventually sleep with humans.
But of course it has only been 8 hours, still remains to be seen how the 1st night goes.

The cat so far is staying away, they haven't met yet. She is usually scared of everything new and prefers hiding and observing (from a distance) to exploring or confronting. We'll see how they do, I'd like them to meet sooner than later, but so far she has been mostly upstairs. Just to be on the safe side, we cut her nails today.

Now this little one seems to good to be true  what a beautiful boy , just adorable. Is it bedtime yet over there? Hope he’s curled up with you :)

Beagles grow into their ears and it seems RR grow into their skins I love those wrinkles....
He seems so contented. Enjoy...

Settled in for the night in the crate around 11.
I stayed on the sofa next to crate, my dearest wife went upstairs.
He woke up at 2 AM, demanded to be let out, walked around the room a little, then climbed on the sofa with me, and positioned himself across the pillow.
After a little pushing and pulling, and a good deal of trying to bite my nose, we managed to find an arrangement acceptable to both.
4 AM - woke up, woke me up, and we went outside.
Wife came downstairs at 5 AM, so now at 5:30 she is trying to find a mutually acceptable arrangement on the sofa :) and I am trying to get another couple hours of sleep upstairs :) :)

So, on the plus side - he seems to sleep well in the crate by himself, and on the sofa hugging a human.

On the minus side - we've been outside a number of times since yesterday, no problems peeing but he hasn't pooped yet. Maybe it's too early, it's only been 15 hours since we picked him up.

Not a bad first night then :) sounds like he’s going to be happy cuddling up at night
Hope you caught up on your sleep and was your wife was comfy on the sofa ;)
Any poops yet?

Yes!! Finally, nice firm poop. Excellent! Good boy!!

Oh those little things that make us happy :)

Wife says she was fairly comfortable on the sofa, despite his attempts to rearrange her hair.
I have to think this through.. maybe this opens up opportunities to split the nights downstairs.
But don't know yet, comfortable on the sofa with a snuggling puppy is one thing, getting him out in the middle of the cold night when he needs to go is another. I have to figure a way to test her :) without her knowing what's going on :)

Even on the 1st day/night it's apparent that Mr Wonderful is very different from Ari in a variety of ways:
- Ari was very respectful of barriers, all his life. Even the flimsiest one would be enough to contain him. Mr Wonderful on his first day was trying to knock the barriers over or to squeeze through, partially succeeding. I have to find a way to reinforce them, they are free-standing and with enough force can be pushed out of the way.
- Ari had very little interest in chewing furniture, we practically did not have to worry. This one is already after drawer handles, this is a new problem for us.

So far so good, though! Another 6 hours - and we can claim first 24 hrs accident free inside the house :)

Off to the vet now for the 1st check up, then will try to sort though some videos and post to YouTube.

Mr Wonderful's name will be announced today :)

Aww so pleased for you....a first poo is just wonderful :D splitting the nights sound a good idea, from your point of view anyway ;)
What a good boy doing all his poos and wees outside ! Hoping you can sort out a suitable barrier that he can’t find his way through, cheeky boy  they might not have to be freestanding for much longer :p

What a lovely puppy he is one handsome boy. Puppys are so mischievous always looking for a opportunity to have fun. Wishing you lots of happy days

What a handsome little chap! Looking forward to reading about him growing up :)
