Ice cream.

No I'm not joking, seriously, it's amazing.

You get your tablet, get some vanilla soft scoop ice cream, scoop a bit out with a spoon and sort of wrap it around the tablet. This works for Roxy every time! I think it works so well because she's greedy anyway and it's cold so she just pretty much swallows it whole. As long as the ice cream is solid enough to not melt in your hand but soft enough to enable you to wrap it around the tablet, it should work well.

The only thing to be careful of is that some dogs can be sensitive to dairy so maybe get a dairy free ice cream :)

I hope this helps anyone struggling to get their dog to take tablets, I know it can be a nightmare!
 
One dog we had, a mini dacy, was terrible at taking tablets. We tried everything we could think of but after taking it, she would spit the tablet out, eating whatever we had wrapped it in. Eventually, after three attempts to give her meds my wife turned to her and said, 'look its for your own good, I'm putting it into this bit of cheese not to fool you but to make it better for you'. She then gave her the cheese / pill and the Dacy ate it. For the rest of her life we had to make sure she saw us putting pills in a treat. She was a dog with brain to spare though.
 
Murphy likes his to be wrapped in a little bit of spreadable cheese. Peanut butter is a no no for him he turns his nose up at the smell..
 
Jack-Russell-Lover, yes she was, at the time we also had two Border Collies and many times she out smarted them. I am sure she was the most intelligent dog we have ever had. But she was virtually untrainable, fortunately her general temperament was fine and she walked on a slack lead but I feel that was only because it made a walk more comfortable for her. Trying to actually train her was impossible, well for us it was. She would do something once then that was it for weeks.
 
Dennis would happily gobble a hundred pills if it meant he could get ice cream :D

Wrapping pills in cheese, etc, doesn't work well with Jasper, and each time it fails, the more suspicious he is next time I try. But stick it in his minced meat and he'll gulp it all down. I have also crushed tablets to make them less noticeable, though you can't always do this - I think it affects the absorption rate of some.
 
Hello i put edies worming tablets in a cheese triangle it works every time
 
I have to give my dog 10 tablets a day at the moment, 5 antibiotics and then 5 vitamin B Complex a couple of hours later. She has started to associate treats with pills now and i've been told that, with Doxycycline, she can't have dairy. Having an awful job trying to find a way to get the pills down her!!

Yeah that's true with Doxycycline, I was on them for a while!
Try dairy free ice cream :)
 
I'll try that. At the moment we're on a little bit of pate; seems to be working - for now! in a couple of days, i expect she'll suss it and turn her nose up - again!
 
Little bit late to the thread but I've found ice cream, cheese, cooked meats. These all work a treat with Percy!
