Happy 21st birthday, Monty

This pretty much counts as an action shot nowadays - he's opened his eyes!

Brilliant! He looks comfortable and content.

But what in the world are those water pipes in the background? Are you in the middle of a major renovation, or does he live in the basement?

That's our airing cupboard! It's about 4' x 7' and he pretty much lives in there, with the door fastened so he can go in and out and Jasper can't. Sadly, though Jasper is really good with him now, he still doesn't trust him (and who can blame him as Jasper's playful overtures consisted of a hefty paw on the back, jaws wrapped gently round his body, and attempts to hump him...), so practically lives in there. I go in there a couple of times a day to give him a bit of fuss, plus the occasional spot-check - and he comes out into the bathroom to see me when I'm on the loo.

Happy 21st Birthday , Monty. He looks incredible for his age. :)

Our colourpoint Persian Chezeray lived until he was 21. We were told that was unusual for a pedigree cat. So,pleased yours is still going strong

Happy Birthday to Monty! Hooray for all the oldies:D and he is looking great too..

.

I’m glad to see another golden oldie! :)

Our Siamese dam & dotter saw me thru infancy into college - Pretty, the dam, died at 19, & her dotter Beauty at 21-YO.
I wish i had photos, but sadly, no - they were classic Sealpoint appleheads, without the ax-blade faces & gremlin ears of the current show-type. // I think having RUNNING water available to drink really extends cats’ lives; the sound stimulates them to drink more often, & helps keep their kidneys in tune. ;)

Neither of them looked any different at around age 20 than they had at age 10, or 5, even - they kept their sleek bodies & muscle, while our outdoor-only cats [“barn cats”, as my mother called them] aged & died young. :( Mostly of various traumas - dog attacks, HBC / hit by car, fights with ‘coons or other cats, etc.
I tried to get my parents to S/N, but my sire in particular refused to “waste money” on desexing moggies, & being just a kid, i hadn’t the $$ or ability to arrange it myself.

Happy birthday, Monty! - lookin’ good. :)

21?! Wow, that's an amazing age, bless him! Love how he lives in your airing cupboard hahhaa, Happy Birthday Monty!

@Nanny71 that's a lovely picture, different species getting along together, so sweet, RIP to them all x

Our old cat used to love the airing cupboard too, pipes, pump and all. we kept her out of the cupboard on purpose, so she spent her last few years sitting, looking out of the bedroom window. She always got on the bed with my husband for a fuss, she dribbled and made so much noise purring at him but never me.

Happy Birthday Monty. 21 today.

The joys of a geriatric cat...

I thought Monty was pretty well resigned to Jasper joining the household - it's been over 9 years, after all. Whenever J comes into the bathroom, which is M's domain (along with the airing cupboard that J can't go in), J says hello to M very nicely, and M gives him a dirty look and a meow but otherwise seems unbothered.

But twice now, after M has walked away, I've stepped in a puddle right where he was standing, which I'm pretty sure wasn't there before... I guess we're just going to be less lax about letting J past the freestanding dog gate into the bathroom. Or I'll soon run out of socks...

Poor Monty. I don't know about cats but there are medications that can help dogs with continence problems - worth a try maybe? Or if you think it's just a stress thing, it might just be easier to keep J away.

There's been the odd 'accident' (occasionally with poos too but I can never be sure they didn't just attach themselves to his fluffy bum and fall off later), but very few so I'm inclined to keep him drug-free for now - there's bound to be side-effects. So for now I'm just going to try to keep J out of there more. It would seem too much of a coincidence for it not to be stress... or maybe excitement at seeing J, but I doubt it! Of course, at his age it probably takes very little stress for him to have an oopsy... It comes to us all....

Happy belated birthday Monty! He looks like he's spending it in the best way :)
