Hi I've been wanting for a while to make my own dog treats for the boy's, now I'm not great at baking so has anyone easy recipes to help me get started, I've seen some on the internet but I'm just not sure which once to try.
Thank you Lesley

You might want to try some 'proper' recipes first, but I came to the conclusion that if you have eggs and some sort of flour (you might want to go for wholemeal or gram flour as they may be healthier) then you can use whatever you have to hand that your dog likes - mashed banana, grated apple, peanut butter, yoghurt, coconut oil, a bit of turmeric... Mix the sloppy stuff together, add enough flour so you can roll it out and cut into shapes, and bake at a low temperature.

Will follow this with interest but my biscuits always turn out soft like cookies rather than crunchy. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong I'd appreciate it!

I made peanut butter and carrot and they turned out ok , boys seemed to survive after trying them lol so I think I'll try sweet potato and apple next. Thanks @JudyN for ideas.

Do you bake biscuits on a baking tray or on a wire rack?

One large tin of pilchards in oil. As much flour as will make a dough. Roll out and cut up. Bake on baking try...cool and keep some while putting the rest in an airtight container and into the freezer- you can take a couple out to thaw then when needed. The best bit is they're the one thing OH will not raid from the kitchen on the quiet.:) Or at least only once!

I make mine on a flat baking tray...oat biscuits are just rolled oats pilchards or mackerel or sardines etc one organic egg mixed in and baked for 15 mins ...I usually roll them into small balls

If you don't mind the lingering smell, you can boil up some liver, let it cool a bit, then slice up into smaller sizes and slow bake for 2 to 3 hours until they go crunchy, I usually bake at gas mark 4, middle to low oven shelf in baking trays, shake the trays occasionally. Dogs love it! Not sure how well it freezes as have always used mine up pretty quick...

I made mine sweet potato and apple biscuits yesterday and they enjoyed them. Going to give the liver a go sounds good thanks :)
