My little fella Archie, struggles in the car on a journey, he pants and his bedding gets wet because he is dribbling any suggestions to help him

Do you think he's panting because he is stressed in the car ?
If so maybe throw the odd treat to him to associate car rides with yummyness and take his mind off what's worrying him.
I suppose he could also have a touch of motion sickness, that can cause panting and increased salivating.

Doggie travel sick biscuits called Queezibics work well for some dogs. Ginger biscuits given a short while before a journey can help too.

If it is just stress, it's best to avoid taking him anywhere in the car while you're working on it. Depending on when he first shows stress, your starting point could be giving him a treat when you just walk up to the car. Then go up to the car and open the door and give him a treat... spend some quality time in the car with him - I taught my dog to 'leave' a treat in my fist in the car. Then with you in the front seat, then starting the engine, then moving a foot and calling it a day... Once you actually get going, it can help if you can give him treats - I found if my dog wouldn't take the treats I knew his stress levels were really high.
