Hi please can somebody advise me I have no one to ask, I’m a self employed groomer working within a salon (not my own) I take 50% and owner takes 50%. However I have someone who baths and preps dogs for me to groom. I groom about 6 dogs a day with the help of the bather. I can do 4 easily a day so only do 2 on ave extra. My problem is I get charged 5.00 for every dog prepped. I feel this is a lot as I dont actually groom that many, the person who preps also does all other duties within salon so some dogs aren’t prepped fully. Is this fair I wouldn’t mind if I could do more dogs more efficiently. Thankyou

For that you are asking that question..I feel like you are already answering to your own question.
I don't have no idea how these things work, but if I were a hair dresser (as I was at back of the days..) and would work with that principle...I would too start asking questions.
Does the owner of the shop provide all the tools/equipment and grooming products? What % from the grooming time does the prepping generally take?
Back in the days I too used to have 'shampoo girl's' help in the Salon..though I didn't have to pay anything towards it. But it maybe helpful to start to calculate your earning after paying the 'room rent' for the owner and how much time you spend grooming vs. prepping to see if the £5 seem like a fair pay/cost. But these things are never straight forward...sometimes paying bigger slice for a help may mean that time saved actually enable you potentially earn more. It is really down for you to calculate if the cost meets your needs or not.

Hmm...another thought came to my mind...
As you are self-employed, paying for the prepping help, you are essentially that person's 'employer'..so you could insist the work you are paying for that person to do, it has to meet your standards/needs or you have grounds to negotiate different pay rate when the prepper is not able to deliver because of her/his other duties. But you do have to take account that maybe this prepper is already thought the £5 payment is already 'averaged' and taking account the different prepping levels..??
I presume this 'helper' is getting paid wages for working in the shop anyway?
