Yep, that'll be fine. It sounds like you're getting your head round it all very quickly!

A couple of things - some bones will be too small for your dog as they can be a choking risk if he tries to swallow them whole. You're best avoiding chicken wings, and also chicken necks. Also, I was advised to start off with bone-in mince so his stomach acids adapted to the bone before they had to cope with whole bones. Most people seem to launch into bones sraight away with no problems, though - see what Honey's book has to say on this.

Thanks , I've always been a quick learner.

Instead of in-bone minces could i grind the bone myself like grind up chicken wings ect?

Yes, it's fine to grind your own. I've no idea what sort of grinder you'd need to do it though.

If your looking for just naked raw minces with no extras, the Bulmers and Landywood basic minces are quiet nice, I have used them both at different times for variety, I think they also do chunks too.

Thanks I'll have a look. Im not sure about trying him on mince again since he seems to prefer chunks. So I'll look at the chunks. Iv also found the dogs butcher which seem good and have a variety of meats.

Ok so here are the calculations

Utterly rawsome - £127 per month ( this is for only the meat this price doesnt include meaty bones as i kind of get them free)

The dogs butcher - £125 per month this doesnt include bones or offal or veg its just for chunks.

Nurturing by nature -£108 per month this is for just there mince.

Ladywoods - £ 65.84 per month this includes chunks , mince ( i hope he lijes there mince) but it also includes offal and i could get meaty bones and it still came cheaper. Are ladywoids good quality? Does make me wonder when i see the difference in price with the others.

Kiezebrink uk ltd, supply a different selection of meats. Iv'e never used them though.

I have used Landywoods my old boy never complained about it and it was a lot cheaper than other suppliers:)

Ok so after doing lots of reading and researching different suppliers iv settled on 2 as i cant pick between them. The dogs butcher and paleoridge. So im buying a few things from each. I will be starting with one protien and will add a new one every week if hes ok with the first. Im starting by making sure i stick to the 80% meat 10% bone with a little offal and will build the offal up according to his stools. Once hes on all the different protein sources i will then add a little fruit and veg according to what he likes.

I have made a menu of what I'd like to feed him eventually but this may change depending on what he likes and what agrees with him. But iv done a menu for the purpose of checking iv got it right.

So here the menu each meal is 80% meat ,10% bone and a little offal and a little veg.

Monday
Am: sardines with fruit, veg , offal
PM: veal chuncks with ground bone, offal, veg

Tuesday
Am: lamb chunks with a lamb rib, fruit, veg, offal
Pm: chicken breast chunks , veg , ground bone, offal

Wednesday
Am:beef mince , offal, ground bone, fruit and veg
Pm:Salmon, veg, ground bone

Thursday
Am:lamb chunks , lamb ribs, veg and fruit, offal
Pm:kangaroo chunks with veg, offal, ground bone

Friday
Am:Sprats, fruit and veg, offal
Pm: Duck chunks , veg , ground bone, offal

Saturday
Am: venison chunks ,Venison ribs , fruit and veg ,offal
Pm: Steak , veg, ground bone

Sunday
Am: rabbit mince , ground bone, offal, fruit and veg
Pm:Sunday lunch ( doggy friendly but his only cooked meal)

All the minces and chunks are boneless i will either add my own grounded up bone or i will add a meaty bone to the mince.

Does this look right?
I was worried about the fat content so i made sure the fatty meats like beef and lamb were paired with learner meats like chicken ect.

That looks fantastic. I might be tempted to include more 'whole bone' rather than ground, for the benefit of his teeth, so he's having 'whole bone' every day(ish). But that's not backed by particular knowledge, just by 'gut feeling'. Also, to keep fat levels down, have you considered green tripe? It's really healthy, usually cheap, and dogs usually love it. It does stink to high heaven, but you do get used to it. Just never be tempted to put it in the microwave to thaw it out as my husband once did...

My dog eats practically everything, but he really doesn't like whole raw sprats (or large lumps of raw liver) - your boy might be completely different of course!

Thanks i didnt know if i could feed only tripe for his meat percentage? The one thing cody hates is different types of meat. If i put for example lamb hearts with lamb mince hes not happy and will only eat one. So if i did feed lamb tripe for excame it would have to be just lamb tripe and i didnt know if giving just lamb tripe for the 80% meat was ok or not. So i could feed just lamb tripe as his 80% meat?

I coukd swap the lamb chunks for lamb tripe when he has his meaty lamb bones.

Im getting his bones from paleoridge as they have good reviews and the woman i spoke to this morning suggested the lamb ribs for his size.

Cody once stole a whole makrel and ate nearly the whole thing. Cody loves fish.

I will eventually give him meaty bones nearly everyday once hes used to them. I was going to give him his entire 20% bone in a day in the morning as the lamb ribs i was told are 15% bone per serving.

Absolutely :) It's all about balance over weeks, even months.

'In the wild', dogs and wolves would eat what is in season. So there will be times when they'd eat practically nothing but rabbits, or nothing but deer... whatever there is a glut of at that time. So you can do exactly what suits you and your dog within a meal or even within a week, as long as his digestion seems happy.

There are raw-fed dogs who never get offal, and I knew a husky who had three chicken carcasses a day and that was it - not good on paper, but the dogs seemed to thrive. Remember that advice on what humans should be eating varies almost daily and depending on where you read it, and a lot less is known about dog nutrition.

Looks like a lovely diet, I just wanted to say, for clarity, that you aren't starting with just one protein - fish, lamb, beef, kangaroo, venison and rabbit are all different proteins. But as long as your dog doesn't have any intolerances, it isn't a problem. I just wanted to clarify for anyone reading in future because when a dog does have intolerances, and we suggest an elimination diet with one protein it would be, for example, rabbit only and no other meats. It's to see what triggers an episode when a new protein is reintroduced.

Thanks i shoukd have made that more clearer. My goal is to get him on the menu above but since hes new to raw im going to sldo one protien at a time. He loves duck the most so im starting with just duck for now and am grinding his bone so his stomach gets used to it then in a week time if hes fine with duck ill add the lamb tripe and keep adding a new protien every week until hes eating like the menu i made above. Then i will add the meaty bones.

Duck is quite a fatty meat, so might not be the best to start him on as he'll be having it every day.

We discovered this after Jasper had a lot of duck mince two days in a row and threw up, copiously, on a walk. Which isn't great when your dog wears a muzzle on walks....

Chicken is the one people usually start on, as it's cheap, healthy and usually well tolerated. Does Cody like that?

Yes he likes chicken , I'll start him on that. What order should i do the meat.

Week 1 - chicken
Week 2 - i was thicking lamb tripe?

The meats i want to feed is
Chicken
Beef
Fish
Lamb
Kangaroo
Venison
Duck

I don't think the order matters at all. Just introduce each new one gradually, just in case it disagrees with him - so start each week with a little of the new one along with what he already has, building up the amount each day, and keeping an eye out for any effects on the digestion.

If he won't eat two different types together, you could try mixing them in thoroughly? (Not sure how well this would work with chunks as opposed to mince.)

Could i not just give him the new protien on its own? As he defiantly wont eat 2 meats together.

Yes, you can - it just means that if he's intolerant of it for any reason then he might have a really runny bum as opposed to just a slightly runny bum!

Each meal has to be around 629g of meat so i think what I'll do is once i know hes good on chicken for example ill give him a small portion of the new protien but i put it in a seperate bowl on its own so i know if hes good on it. If hes ok from that small amount then ill order more and see how he gets on with a full bowl.

I went shopping today. There a pet shop near me that sells raw food from various suppliers and they had the chicken breast chunks in from the butchers dog. I have brought a weeks worth and brought some offal from there too and 2kg pack of chicken wings which im going to grind myself.
