Man City game banner, white lives matter

so everyone is disgusted at a banner saying white lives matter,, so it’s ok to riot, loot, protest, damage,swear at police , injure our police, to have it all over the news for 5 weeks or so and every football match they take the knee, the shirts read black lives matter, we have had it rammed down our throats, and so a plane ✈️ flys over the stadium with white lives matter and it’s apparently wrong!! It was always going to happen, just to say I’ve never been in trouble with police, held a car and truck licenses like forever, no points , I’m a honest living person who still hold door open for people, I help so many people and some will say I’m a racist for Seeing the banner as just nothing to get in a state about, this world is getting harder to read as every week passes
 
All lives matter, and any dividing into colour/creed/ethnicity/gender and so on is inflammatory. The only exceptions IMO are medical, where some ethnicities/different genders have different reactions to drugs, are more prone to certain illnesses etc. and Safe Spaces for women.

But it will be a hot day in Manchester before we can educate people to providing equality of opportunity or to think looks are unimportant. It's how people are, not how they look, that matters.

I'm not sure this forum is the place for this sort of discussion. Let's just say I'm uncomfortable with your views, Lurcherman, but it's such a hugely emotive subject I think it's best avoided here.

Just my opinion.
 
Personally I don't mind any kind of post as long as it is not offensive or result arguments...after all this is 'general discussion' place and nobody is forced to comment.
I try to keep away discussing too much about current issues in the world...too much raised emotions going on and those issues are very 'flammable' and I have a habit of soaking up too much of the negativity and getting my socks in a twist.
All I say now is that I agree with Hemlock...no colour should matter any more than other. I wonder if we are heading to very grey times...or colourless...or is going to be colour riot?o_O
 
Don’t believe I said anything wrong, in a general discussion bit, so it’s ok for shirts to have black lives matter and the knee everywhere but can’t do a banner saying the same but white, why didn’t the bame chant all lives matter? Ok I will stop from freedom of speech and behave
 
I told myself I wouldn't, but...

There is a pandemic of racism, both institutional and in society, both in the UK and the US, and in many other countries. Every day of their lives black people feel the effects of it. Blacks and other minorities are pulled over by police far more often than whites, to a degree that is entirely out of proportion with the numbers who are actually guilty of any crime. This has to stop - it is a disgrace, it needs to be addressed, at all levels of society. Blacks have long been treated as if their lives don't matter, and this is what the BLM movement is about.

If you're white, then (as far as skin colour is concerned), you're already treated as if your life does matter. You are already privileged, when it comes to racism you have little to complain about (yes, I know, English people in Scotland suffer racism too, though whether it affects their job prospects, how they are viewed by police etc., I couldn't say).

Saying that white lives matter, or all lives matter, as if you are 'correcting' 'black lives matter' entirely misses the point of BLM. Of course BAME people think that white lives are important too, but whites are already treated as if their lives are important - we don't need a campaign to support us. Whites, blacks, everyone, should be thinking about, and feeling angry about, the treatment of BAMEs.

That is why I think 'White/all lives matter' is, if not offensive, then dismissive of the experience of blacks.
 
Having been a social misfit most of my life,I know full well what it's like to have doors slammed in your face just because of the way you look. We don't want your kind here they would say all because of the way I looked and lived my life.

What kind of a monster am I, well I'm a bloke with no criminal convictions what so ever. I've worked all my life and paid taxes,o yes and I'm white. My crime was I looked scruffy with long dreadlocks and lived on a converted bus with my dogs,that's it that was my crime. The amount of crap I used to get was unbelievable, so I can understand why people get angry,I can understand how it hurts to have them doors slammed in your face because you're deemed to be the wrong colour. I now live in a house and I don't have dreadlocks anymore,just long hair and still on the scruffy side. I'm still the same person BUT I don't get anymore crap now,it's strange what a simple hairstyle and a house can do.

I don't care if you are white,black,brown,yellow or red. I dont care if you are gay,lesbian,bisexual or a guy who likes to wear women's cloths. I simply don't care,anyone is welcome to sit down and have a nice cup of coffee and a chat with me. We may not agree on everything,but that's life.

The kettle is on.

Everyone's opinion is respected by me whether I agree or disagree. After all, we come to our opinions with our individual life experience and skills sets, and some are very different from others, but no less valid to the person who has them.
 
While there certainly are instances of racism, I would disagree with generalizations like “all white people are privileged”, while “all black people are oppressed”. Some are. Many are not. On both sides.
I would also disagree with picking some of the recent victims and making them into national heros, saints, while in reality they were criminals who had inflicted quite a bit of pain and suffering on their victims.
And while the problem of race and equality certainly deserves attention, the shape and form of the protests (I can only speak for US), as well as rhetoric of many BLM activists, are not advancing the causes of inclusiveness and equality. They are often either politically motivated, or simply greed, or just criminal behavior, and are extraordinary divisive.
May very well trigger pacifying responses initially, but I can’t see how this can cause anything but more animosity long term.

Just my 2 cents, and I must say I also resisted commenting, but since we are talking.... hope no one gets offended, apologies in advance :)

Ari, yes - even in this situation, nothing is black and white. Just because George Floyd was (allegedly) murdered doesn't make him a saint, and there are good and bad people of all colours, in all roles and communities - though that doesn't make his killing any less wrong of course.

And it is very sad that people who simply want an excuse for a good riot and a bit of looting and violence will turn what should have been into a peaceful protest into the ugly scenes we've all seen, and then everyone who was protesting is tarred with the same brush and turned into 'them'. The toppling of the statue of Colston (in my view a justified, important and symbolic act, though many will disagree) gets lumped together with the damage and destruction of other statues or properties so they end up getting seen in the same way.

And the white Far Right who came out supposedly to protect these statues didn't exactly cover themselves in glory. Doing a Hitler salute in front of Churchill shows a rather poor grasp on Hitler.
