My neutered male started this at the age of 5 ...he humps when he is anxious excited nervous etc...
Repetitive rhythmic actions release endorphins, so it's often used as a comforter. Of course it is never appropriate for a dog to hump a person, so if he tries, prevent him quickly and firmly, then redirect him to a cushion or suitably sized toy.
Meanwhile think about what could be upsetting him, and work to build his confidence. Whether or not you have long-term plans to castrate him, this is not the time.
