my 15 year old labrador has had a sudden fast big lump come up on her face under her ear today I'm wondering if she maybe walked into something and will go down anyone else had this happen came up so fast tried to put a picture on taken by my phone but says file it's too large

Measure it and keep photos and check again tomorrow. is it hard or soft, any heat there or not. Speak with VET as it could be something or nothing. Best of luck.

The fact it came up fast is actually quite a good thing - malignant lumps are likely to be slower.

It's worth sending some photos to your vet. There are so many types of lump. Some are nothing at all and others need investigation.

not sure if it is hard or soft but it's big I will try measure it and see if it goes down any by Monday , vets won't except photos have to take her and I'm off work on sick at moment with pain from my factory job so only getting statuory sick pay so it's just tupoval I need the vets again allready

Hi, if you explain to the vets your situation, I am sure they will arrange a payment plan for you! :)

they wont arrange payment plan they never woud except that kind thing there if u don't pay it all they take your pet they I once asked if I could pay 350 ome week and the other 50 odd in 2 weeks as I was going to go over drawn and they refused

Have you considered looking for another vet? If they won't accept a payment plan and won't look at photos to try to assess whether a case is urgent, they don't have your pets' interests at heart :-(

there is only one other vet here and there the same won't except payment plans either and I rang a pdsa one up seeing as I'm now on statuory sick pay from work and they said pdsa only help 20 percent I would have to travel 30 miles to it but there not taking new patients on anyway cause of the corona

I'm sorry to hear that, Joanna - and also that this is such a difficult time for you :( Do please let us know how your lab gets on.

I will do I'm thinking if it don't go down by Monday then she probably not banged it and would of thought only other thing that can come up so fast is an abcess so if it's that it shouldn't be too costly not an operation but the main thing is it isn't causing her pain so at least she should be ok to wait till Monday to go to vets they have been hassling me anyway that they have to see her again cause she on medrone even though she coughs less than now than a year and a half ago when diagnosed but they like to get that consultation fee aswell as there overcharged medication don't they bit the other thing I'm going to do I think is now I'm off work sick I am in to recieve medication and if you get prescription from vets can get it cheaper I think online

Would you be able to get PDSA to help you with your vet costs as you are on SSP:)

I had heard about pdsa years ago where they helped with costs and people just paid a contribution what they could afford but it dousnt exist anymore they just do 20 percent off and only one vet that was a 30 mile drive and if he charged more wouldn't be 20 percent off anyway plus thry not taking new pets on there register

Find another vet, put your thoughts and case to them and ask if there is anyway you could pay over a few months or whatever you realistically can afford. Also speak with some of the local charities they might perhaps arrange a loan for you? I don't know, but surely worth asking? Wish you all the best. :)

there other vets here also won't take installments and the only charity that used to help is pdsa and they only do 20 percent off now and they said only one vet can take her too to get the 20 percent off 30 miles away I rang them they said not taking on new pets due to corona I have a credit card will have to use that if I have to its got bigger today it's huge and her cheek is selling too now so she will have to go

good news I think he pricked it just blood came out he thinks it's bruising she walked into something cause of her arthritis and very weak back legs 45.00 with anti inflamatary tablets so hopefully hes right he dont want to put her on anything for the arthritis in front leg or very weak back legs he just said at some point we will have to do something about that not many get to that age

That's good news, Joanna. It's not easy seeing them grow old though, is it?

no its not every time I have to take her I fear I won't be coming back with her but she can live on longer yet hopefully the anti inflamatary tablets take her swelling down soon

I've noticed another swelling on top of her head too that I'm sure wasn't there before and the one on side of head is now making her eye nearly close but it surely cant be anything else than her banging herself she got 9 of these carprox tablets from the vet anyway one a day she had one this morning

the swelling gone down on top of head but arghh!!! she won't leave it alone the swelling on side of head where he put the needle in to see if abcess or banged herself she's making it bleed a lot rubbing it with leg and licking the blood of her leg although it's not as large and her eye is normal now it surely is really bad her making it bleed like this
