71 F (22 C) - not half bad for November, so up into mountains we went again yesterday.
We've been hiking a lot this season. Yesterday was a long hike - almost 7 hrs, up and down the mountain, with a stop at a mountain lake. By the end of it, Miles seemed as full of energy as he was at the beginning (which I can't say about myself), although today it looks like he is planning to spend most of the day on the sofa.
Now, he is a very friendly pup. But - at 90 lbs (41 kg), to some folks out there he can appear a bit intimidating.
There were a few people at the lake, enjoying still warm sun, views, and fresh air. Including this group of about 6-8, getting ready to also enjoy their lunch in the middle of the hike, unwrapping their sandwiches and veggies, when we got there.
There were a couple of dogs too, off leash, minding their business, splashing in the water, and staying away from the group of lunch folks.
Enter Miles....
1st - dogs!!! Can I meet them?? Well - everyone is off leash, why not? Great dogs, running around, everyone is very friendly, happy, plus free entertainment for the lunching group, who by then have their sandwiches and veggies unwrapped and ready for consumption... The plot thickens, but you can guess what's coming next, right?
Right! Someone is having lunch!!!! That's even better than dogs!!
The super friendly, super confident giant pup strolls over to the group, like he had known them for ages. Gives them kisses (but remember, 90 lbs... most non-dog people try to remain still and not make sudden movements), and while his new found best friends remain still, he proceeds to eat their carrots and vegetables, then grabs a sandwich, and runs away.
Thankfully, they were a truly awesome bunch of good people, and had a good laugh at my dearest wife's attempts to catch the thief. G-d bless them, and everyone with enough sense of humor and wisdom to not get angry over little things.
Anyway - some lost their lunch, but most enjoyed the show, no-one got hurt, and the encounter didn't spoil the beautiful day for anyone.
