Hi
I am new to this forum and to dog ownership. We have a beautiful 11 week old whippet bitch, Minnie. She is doing so well with learning her new home and house training. I have a couple of questions any answers much appreciated.
Minnie sleeps in her crate by my bed. She sleeps well, waking me halfway through the night to be taken out for a pee. She soon goes back to sleep. We plan on her sleeping downstairs. The question is when should we try this? I will, of course, come down and give her a toilet break as usual. It's more about the anxiety. She demonstrates almost no distress in her crate but whether it's upstairs during the night or in the kitchen during the day, at the moment she has our background noises for company.
Secondly, Minnie weighs 4.4kilos having put on 1.1kilos in two weeks. She has a can of puppy food a day along with a tiny bit of kibble. She eats everything in her dish. The question is, are we feeding her enough at the moment?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Alan

Hi, you can start moving her crate whenever you like, but do it in baby steps. So, 3 or 4 nights at the bedroom door, 3 or 4 in the hall and so on, depending on the layout of your house. If she appears unsettled at any stage, go back to the previous point for a few more nights.

It's hard to say if you are feeding enough without knowing what you are feeding, different foods need different amounts. But 1.1 kilos in a week sounds ok I think (disclaimer, I have no specific experience of whippets)

Thanks for the suggestions, Joanne. I might start tonight with the crate. Feeding her Butcher's Puppy Perfect and AVA puppy kibble. Thanks again.

Welcome on board. When possible would appreciate photos of the new girl. As you can see, like yourself, I also have a whippet albeit a rescue. Hope it all goes well.

Thanks for the reply. Your whippet looks gorgeous. I have tried uploading pics because I think my pup is so lovely (all owners think this, right?) but having technical issues with memory - the phone's, not mine. Will keep trying.
