I'm thinking of getting my youngest dog insured since ive had so much problems with my other two there now 15.5 and 14 so too late to insure now but my youngest she's a little jack russell terrier cross spaniel she's just turned 5 I've tried two quotes pet plan and another one both came up with thirty pound something a month is it really that much for a small dog per month with no health problems right now

My boy is older (10) but we pay £93 monthly.

The whole thing with insurance is you can't foresee the future, so you can't anticipate what you might need later.

Gosh 93 a month I've sometimes paid vets allot in a year but not every year I've also read that they don't cover medication is this true

Found this one lifetime cover I've included a screen shot it says 15 pound some thing but it didnt allow me to put the both breeds so just chose jack russell it's says 2000 cover is that the amount u can get cover for whole life time or each year ?

You should check with them to be sure.

In fairness, my cover is for about £12,000 per year - my last dog had cancer and his last year's bills were really high so I like to know I don't have to make choices based on cost.

Usual thats per year of what I know in the Netherlands. You should read it good cause here some of them exclude some medical conditions or you have a own risk amount thats high.

I worked in the insurance sector and you have to realise how it works.
Overall, insurance works on paying out 50% of what is paid in.
So if you're unlucky and get a £5,000 (as we are about to) you'd be forgiven for wishing you had insurance (as we don't) BUT
For 40 years between us my partner and I have had a dozen and a half cats and probably a dozen or so dogs, and neither of us has ever really had to pay out much, except for the £4,000 bill on the cat 2 years ago.
So in 3 years along with the other cat and extra accessories and tests, let's say in the last 3 years they have cost us £10,000.
In that time a rough estimate says insurance on all animals would have cost somewhere upward of £100 a month for between 2 and 6 animals at any one time, or £1,200 per year, more than £30,000.
While they are young and stupid and liable to get into scrapes, yes, worth it, but really you're better off with savings and high limit credit cards, ever time.
Even with the massive expenses we have just had and may have more (the cruciate operation leaves us with a 70% chance of the other cruciate going within 18 months) I have no regrets about not being insured.

It can be difficult to decide whether insurance is worth it it probably woukdnt have been if I had all 3 insured but the other too are old now anyway so they won't insure them I will have to see what the small print says if I can on sone of these insurance quotes

I think at the very least I'd get third party liability insurance. It is very cheap, and free with membership of the Dogs' Trust I believe, and that would cover you if, for example, your dog caused accident or injury to someone else.

If nothing else i would get accident and liability insurance especially if your dog goes offlead ....i have my oldies on this and its £8 per month from PDSA ....
£30 sounds right for a 5 yr old dog ....if you are getting insurance i would always have lifetime cover and at least £7,000
Minimum. ...5 yrs ago when our 8 mth old jack russell broke his back leg it was £3,400 ....i would hate to think what they would charge now .....

We have 3rd party cover through Dogs Trust, and a lot of household insurances include 3rd party for dogs as well. Worth checking.

Vet bills - well, that's a gamble, and without a crystal ball, it's down to luck.
