Can I use Sudocrem on a hot spot ‍♀️

What should go on a dogs sore/hot spot?

Rosie has developed a sore area at near top of her back leg towards her butt.
I didn’t notice it at first. But she was acting ver strange and miserable all day - I thought is was because my grandaughter had gone to nursery but she was no different GDaughter came home or when my husband arrived home.
Then I thought ‘she’s due to be in season soon’ we usually had a male dog to pre-warn us of this but sadly we said goodbye to him in Dec 2020. I was settled with that theory.
Started playing some games with her and noticed her twisting toward her butt a lot. So checked to see if she was in season, she wasn’t.
But she was pretty matted to the left of her butt. She has a area about 6cm round that’s very link with the odd red mark and a 1cm area that weeping quite badly.

I have trimmed her hair shorter and bathed it with warm water and cotton wool. I put a dairying thick layer of Sudocrem over it and then a nappy (with tail hole cut) so that she can’t get to it (the nappy just covers the site area thankfully)

Now I read that home remedies are either Aloe Vera gel or chamomile teabags. Nothing about sudocrem. Is it ok to use this - I so hope it won’t make it worse.

First, I would check with the vet to try to ascertain what the underlying cause of the sore bit is. Looking online, it seems that Sudocrem can be used on dogs, but is only safe if you follow certain guidelines, so have a read around and see what is suggested.

It seems a lot better this evening. I’m keeping a close eye on it. ❤️

I have an article on garden plants that are poisonous to dogs and cats and camomile is toxic to them if injested. So please no camomile tea bags. A little diluted organicACV is good for hot spots . Also a discussion with the vet will also be helpful

Try calendula creme what you use for baby butts aswell but than without perfume. Normally I am not so from the pendle remedies, but I use this for myself now also :p

It’s ok - I don’t have any of this to use. It was in an article I had read.
The sore is much much better today - no more weeping and has dried out nicely.
She so happy now - we have our Rosie back

I haven’t heard of Calendula crime - is that available in the uk? (Just interested to know so that I can have it available for her)

So glad to hear that Rosie is on the mend. I hope this doesn't happen again. Keep safe and well and give Rosie a hug for me.
