hello! i've been a lurker for a while after first lurking on the positively forums. i'm happy to see a few names here that i recognize.

i'm inconsistent about capitalization. i have repetitive strain injuries in both hands and caps can be painful to type. i'll understand if you never read my posts because of it.

i do not have any animals of my own. since moving out [redacted to protect the rapidly aging] years ago, i've been lucky to live with many cats and a couple dogs. all the joy, none of the vet bills, some of the clean up duty. i also volunteered for a dog rescue and did pet sitting for friends for some more dog/cat time.

i'm back in school with nothing but dust bunnies to keep me company. i'm here to keep learning and preparing for that mythical future where i'll somehow have the space, time, and money for an animal. and in the meantime, i'll live vicariously through the rest of you.

Nice to meet you too, and lack of capitalisation is certainly not something that would put me off reading. Far better to have none, than too many.

Welcome - and I agree with JoanneF, no capitals is much better than SHOUTY CAPS any day! What type/breed of dog are you drawn to, or aren't you fussy?

judy, interesting question! i'm not fussy, but i'm also not choosing a dog to live with at this point. there are many dogs i love that i know i'm not the right match for. i had a neighbor with an irish setter -- a beautiful, fun dog who'd have lost his last three marbles if he had to live in my non-marathon-running household.

i get extra excited when i get to meet a sighthound. i love how they are simultaneously the most graceful dogs and the biggest dorks. (i told my sister that i really like greyhounds and she said, "i can see you with a greyhound -- people always look like their dogs." i thought it was a compliment about my running, but apparently it was a commentary on my odd lounging positions and napping skills.)

after processing adoption applications and watching people make decisions about which dog to get, i plan to retain the services of a behaviorist if/when i'm in a position to get a dog. those cute faces are too persuasive sometimes.

I wish more people would choose with their head and not their heart, Paperweight Though when it comes to sighthounds, I'm completely biased And yes - 'elegant dork' sums up greyhounds very well!

sense of humor is a “must have” when getting a dog, without it space/time/money don’t work quite as well... so, you are all right! nice to meet ya, welcome, looking forward to reading more of your cap-less posts.
