Hi,

We took our Dobermann in for a full blood panel at our local vets last week as he had developed a sudden weight gain, increased thirst and bloods came back yesterday, he has Hypothyroidism. Starts his medication today.

Early hours today I woke to let my dobe outside to pee and was presented with a bloodied bed, called out of hours vet immediately and he is booked in this morning. I'm just worried sick lately, things just seem to be going from bad to worse, with my beloved boy.

Has anybody else's dog suffered from Hypothyroidism and or blood from penis?

Have had no experience of this condition, but am thinking of you and your boy, a really worrying time, hope he's ok

How did it go at the vet's, Estyle?

Thank you both. Vet found that his prostate was slightly larger than usual and inflamed. The vet did not do a urine analysis. He has been put onto a course of antibiotics. Amoxicillin and Loxicom, if dripping persists after 7 days then he will need to be taken in for a scan of his prostate. (Hopefully it won't come to this) he has also just started his thyroid medication today too!

Fingers crossed it's a simple infection that the antibiotics will clear up xx

Heart goes out to you. Fingers crossed. It can’t be easy.

As all of the above, everything crossed the meds work and he's comfortable, awful having 2 things going on at once!

I hope all goes well and you see improvement soon.

Do ask your vet for a urine test as Dobies are rather prone to bladder crystals.

Thank you all for the well wishes. It's nice to be able to express my feelings on here, amongst many other animal lovers who can relate, when your pet is ill.

I have attached photographs of both my Dobermann...Sultan and my Exotic Shorthair....Betty. 20190616_162943.jpgScreenshot_20210218-014827_Facebook_20210218015024185.jpg

@EStyle Was just wondering how Sultan is doing? Lovely photo, he is a handsome lad.

They are beautiful. Do they play together? We have Mabel (whippet) and George (cat) with us. Super relationship but George does tease her occasionally. Keep us au courant with Sultan’s situation.

Hello again!

The antibiotics have appeared to done the trick! He finished the course 2 days ago and touch wood no more bloodied discharge. His thyroid medication has also seemed to take effect as he is looking more trim as the days pass.

Sultan and Betty do play but on Betty's terms! Betty is the one that will come over and engage with sultan...sultan knows if he gets to excitable, he will be told.

Thank you all for your concern.

*RGC I love both your dog and cats name :)

Brilliant news, thank you for letting us know :)

Glad the situation’s turned the corner. Fingers crossed there are no further issues. George came from a rescue in Thessaloniki. He’s coming up to 3 and is wonderful - a real character. Heart lifting to observe their relationship.
He’s not posh like Betty.
