A ferrety update

A quick update on Sid, whilst waiting to see the vet he has spent the week out whenever possible, living in daughters room after school and the front room with us of an evening, where he also spends the night, but generally being 'difficult' on and off in his cage in between..:confused: The vet checked him all over and was happy with his health altogether though his cataracts have got much worse and he doesn't think he can see much at all. His reasoning was the lack of sight was now making him anxious when in the cage alone as when out with us he was happy and settled..
Upshot - he prescribed trying to find him an old lady companion:rolleyes:..would you believe it!:D(hubby thought I made that up but I really didn't...:)) and so the search begins!(actually it began as soon as I finished work yesterday:D)
 
Thoughts with you, Flobo. For what it’s worth we had two whippets and when, Blue, our lovely male whippet lost his sight we attached a bell to the collar of Poppy the female for walks outside. We had no problems whatsoever. Obviously we couldn’t move furniture around the house but Blue was an old boy at this stage and didn’t move much. It all worked out smoothly was not the ordeal that one had imagined. Hope it goes well for him.

It's a tough search so far, no little oldies my end of the country..yet.. most of the ferret rescues are up north( though to be fair every where is north of me!:rolleyes:). The closest maturer lady so far is 274 miles away:eek:, I don't mind the travelling but all the boys would also have to do the round trip to see how they get ono_O
Will keep you posted!
@RGC Thankyou, I think this is his problem he's missing not only the company but the guidance and reassurance he would usually get from a companion. It's a shame the brothers are so bothersome to him or he could snuggle up with them, but there we go, best laid plans and all that!:D

I'm in Brighton, I did wonder if you may have any clues as I believe you're not too far away..

Flobo, do forgive me. I misread your original post completely. Have just understood that Sid is a ferret and not a dog. What you must have thought about my remark re bells on collars is anyone’s guess. I’m obviously losing it - “Matron, he’s got out of bed again!”
 
:D:D:DDon't worry,easy mistake as this is a dog forum!;) But same principle all the same, a lot of blind animals really benefit from the guidance of another and to be honest I felt your post was totally relevant and I didn't bat an eyelid:D

Flobo, have had a skim search and there’s Gem Ferret Care Group which covers Kent, East and West Sussex. Any use?

There is a great one in purbeck dorset ..they have all ages of ferrets. ...thats still quite a way from you...
We are about 30 miles from you ....it takes us about 90 mins from us to poole in dorset ....
 
There is a lady in west sussex ....ferretjane@hotmail.co.uk
She runs a ferret welfare that helps rehome ferrets all over hampshire sussex etc ...she may know of someone nearer to you that may have an older lady waiting....there is one in Chippenham wiltshire too :p:p:)
 
Haha, I have already emailed her @Tinytom ! And thank you also @RGC the person Tinytom mentioned is part of the Gem Ferret Rescue:D.. I am waiting to hear back from her. The phone number on the website is an invalid number strangelyo_O but yes they were the closest ferret rescue I could find too.
 
There’s also the RSPCA website. I’ve just had a look and there seem to be homes required within driving distance from Sussex. I’m going to stop now as I’m becoming a nuisance. Best of luck with your quest.
 
Ive given Jane carrier boxes and crates for her ferret rescue ...they are a great team :):);)

So Iggy, our albino ferret, has always had as much grace and agility as a brick, it seems Goose got the gymnastics gene...or so we thought! This last week or so Iggy has discovered he can climb exceptionally well and jump gaps he never thought possible!:eek: He literally, over night it seemed, went from utterly missing an 8 inch jump from sofa to sofa:confused:(somehow!) to now almost perfectly leaping that gap and bigger and oh my goodness does he now totally love climbing! I found him on top of both the cages the other day, so high I could only just reach him and then he managed to get on a trunk, climb up through our coats and get to the helmet rack where I found him climbing through each helmet, like a ninja!:D:eek::D His new name is 'Spider Ig'!!!

Almost forgot, random ferret fact(think I've run out after this one!)- a group of ferrets is called
'your worst nightmare!:eek:', only joking, they're called a 'business';)
