"Titch". 3 years after "VeJay" was born.

We have a new arrival who has joined our family this year.
We had a litter of puppies from "VeJay" on the 19th May and "Titch" was born.

Before the mating we found a nice dog to use, he was a quiet and calm dog belonging to a gamekeeper, he has all of his BVA eye tests and is DNA tested clear for prcd-PRA, FN and AMS. This makes all of the puppies in the litter hereditary clear of the problems because mum "VeJay" is also DNA tested clear.

I did not start a post any sooner because I am not able to get any pictures from my camera to the computer since changing to Windows 10.
I thought a post about a new litter was a waste of time without any pictures and disappointing for everyone.

Our local gamekeeper wanted a puppy and a couple of other shooting people too, one person from 17 years ago who had waited 3 years for another puppy, so the time was right, all word of mouth and no advertising involved.
VeJay has been a fantastic mother and still protects her growing up daughter playing together like litter mates /children.
Titch is 5 months old now and comes everywhere with us and the others, she never runs out of energy, all walks are on the South Downs and around our local shoot boundaries, no need for hard walking on pavements.

We did not choose to keep her, unfortunately her health check at 7.5 weeks of age discovered a grade 3-4 heart murmur. Our vet could not guarantee her life expectancy he said it could be as short as 6 months or a couple of years, possibly even a normal lifetime. He has checked her a couple of times since and there has been no improvement.
Our vet said to treat her as a normal dog and take her beating when she is old enough. If and when the time comes that the puppy should be struggling with her heart condition he will be there for her and treat the situation as required.

She is growing up as a sensible no problem puppy, potty training is not 100% , a little more time needed there.

Oh wow...you've had busy summer then. How many pups did VeJay have? Sorry to hear about the heart murmur. So is there no chance that heart murmur could repair itself? Our Ella had 'innocent murmur', grade 2 and within some weeks it had corrected itself and it was no more....she never showed any physical signs that it had even existed in first place.
And how about you.....do you 'feel it' when having youngster running around and keeping you busy? I bet you are like 'pro' and deal with it all like it is no big deal...'another day, another puppy'

VeJay had 6 puppies.
The very first one caused a lot of screaming from mum not understanding what was happening. After the first had arrived she got on with the job silently in a professional manner, such a clever girl.

We have had Titch checked by the vet a couple of times since the first diagnosis, both visits about 1 month apart from each other with no change. I got the impression at the second visit that this was not just an "innocent type murmur"

Having a puppy around the house this summer has not been too difficult, the back door is open most of the time we are home and we have the dog flap to be used for when we are out. Titch and VeJay have spent hours out in the garden playing together this summer which has taken a lot of pressure away from a new puppy in the house.
Titch is changing her teeth at the moment, she loves her empty cow hooves and gets a lot of relief from chewing on these. So far she has not chosen to attempt chewing anything else. We have about 6 hoof chews lying around the place so she has no excuse for not being able to find one.

Sika (granny) was not very amused with the puppy in the early days and frequently told her off. Things are better now that Titch has grown up a bit. I did notice sika showing the whites of her eyes a couple of days ago with a tense body, I removed Titch to settle the problem.
Ah well life goes on and we manage to survive. Phew

Sorry to hear it might not be 'innocent'...but then again, one can never say 'never', fingers crossed for a positive surprise and lets hope your little one may prove the vet wrong and be a 'late developer' But if that will not be the out come, she will have lovely home and company to live with...what ever time she will have.
Uh, oh, outch ...'teehing'...saying no more about that.....and teasing the granny, can't have that, particularly when the Granny still has her teeth! How old is the 'Grand Dame' now?
Lovely to hear again about your domestic life with new pup. I'm almost starting to miss that stage with mine...ALMOST! My teens are funny bunch at the moment...yes, we'll take it one day at time, survive and when the times change again, we'll laugh at what we went through

Granny "Sika" is 9.5 years of age. She never looks for trouble but this "Titch" has unwittingly pressed her button a couple of times. Once the puppy screams in terror, VeJay then considers it to be her responsibility to defend her puppy and then everyone joins in.
Things are much better now as Titch is growing up and can tolerate a telling off much better without screaming for mum
We never tell Sika off for putting the puppy in her place.

Sad about the heart murmur but sounds as if you have a very sensible vet. Your pup will have a lovely fulfilling life.

Congratulations it sounds like Titch is loving life,what colours are the puppies and how many boys/girls did VeJay have,you really need to get some pic's sorted

VeJay had 3 boys and 3 girls, they were all golden with various white on their faces and feet. Dad was an orange roan. A lot of the white markings on the puppies was starting to turn roan, Titch herself now has roan stockings on her back legs.

I have been waiting for months for a friend to sort my camera and computer out.
She is worth waiting for as she looks after her mum's computer too, everything is done for ease and so that I can understand, just like she does for her own mum.
I don't like to pester her too much

'roan'...that is a new word to me and I just googled it to educate what it means. Now I can describe what I see with one word...providing that other person knows the meaning too.

Roan is a mixture of colours mixed with white, golden mixed with white = orange or lemon roan. liver mixed with white = liver roan. Black mixed with white = blue roan.

Lovely news re pups all delivered safe and mum doing well. And what better life for Titch, quality over quantity with the life you can give her, but she may just surprise you yet and go for both!!
