Sorry I haven't updated sooner ..so i did the sweet potatoes and some turkey jerky. The turkey jerky was a success and the puppers loved them ..the sweet potatoes came out a bit bendy so I'm thinking keep them in for an hour or two longer and maybe invest in a mandolin slicer...maybe they were a bit thick ..

I actually did mine yesterday at 100 (fan) in the oven for 3 hours. A great success. Mabel loved them and I didn’t have to visit A & E - no accidents with the mandolin. Yes, a mandolin’s a worthwhile investment.

Sounds like you’ve got the knack! Well done and I’m sure Mabel is delighted! I wish our girls were easier to feed. They love the sweet potatoes but recently have rebelled so far as our culinary efforts go. I’ve been thinking of starting a new topic to try to get some ideas. They were all raw and seemed to thrive on it but slowly stopped eating it no matter what version we bought. That’s ok although I have to say they’re condition really shone through but finding a quality food that they will find ace has proven next to impossible. They probably reckon they got it made!

Further to the treats topic, whilst I’ve been sitting here my husband just sent me a screen shot and said this looks exactly what we make for our Sassi and Orni! It was being served in a Michelin star restaurant!

A friend with a very fussy whippet has had the same issue. Roo has decided that he no longer likes Cotswold Raw so I’m collecting it for Mabel tomorrow. I’ve only had one refusal from Mabel and that was for a Finer by Nature turkey complete. It was a rogue item and others had the same issue. I’ve been feeding her Natural Instinct and Natures Menu. I’ve stopped getting mail order supplies (Bella and Duke). I do like that shot of the long sweet potato strips. ¡Qué aproveche!

Thanks Judy I'll take a look at those..the dehydrator sounds a great idea..could save myself a small fortune on treats

If only my Robin would be treat oriented! (sigh!) Ha ha! Good luck with the experiment! :)

How I agree - trainers need to meet some sighthounds befoe their information is fully rounded! Dogs that aren't food-oriented (unless they can steal it or hunt it) need a whole new skills set for training.

That triggered something for me - there's a book called Hunting Together by Simone Mueller that is getting great reviews. It's all about working with your dog's prey drive in training, rather than trying to suppress it or fight against it.

I would most respectfully suggest that the author has never had much to do with sighthounds either.......

I was wondering how that would work... I'm wondering if sighthounds in general tend to be much more selective with their prey, so allowing them to rag a fluffy toy instead really isn't going to hack it (as compared with, say, a JRT). I'm not sure I ever saw Jasper's prey drive kick in apart from with a deer, rabbit or hare. Not unless you count the time he 'locked on' to a jetski and pelted round the curve of Shell Bay but hey, he was young then.

They still live in our hearts.

Is it essential to give the thinly sliced (mandolined) sweet potatoes a light spray of oil?

We don’t actually do anything other than slice them thinly before placing on a Pyrex tray that has been lightly coated with coconut oil.

Thank you. Have just made another batch - still as popular.

Great news! Many thanks for the post as you jogged my mind and reminded me to cut the liver and put in the Aga!

I’ve now made three batches of sweet potato crisps, all of them with success and popular with friends’ dogs. Has anyone made the crisps using a microwave? I’m just thinking of the amount of time (3 hours) required with a conventional oven.
