Hi! I’m Nic (I'll explain the ''ninja'' part another day!!) and I share my home and life with the amazing Genevieve, Jen for short, a beautiful black, labrador-pointer cross of some kind.

I’m a distinction level accredited trainer with the IMDT and a specialist in canine reactivity - 13 years has gone by so fast!

I rescued Jen from the wonderful Glendee Rescue kennels - a real live wire - and during our first year together she became calm, secure, confident. Her gentle, generous nature shone through and she was the most amazing stooge dog for my puppy classes.

One Sunday morning Jen was attacked by 2 off-lead dogs. She changed from Little Miss Happy Go Lucky and understandably became a fearful, lunging, snarling 30kg beast at the other end of the lead. Our worlds imploded.

Living life 24-7 with a now ‘reactive’ dog was a gruelling, heart-wrenching, isolating, lonely, desperate, uphill, day in day out messy slog. Emotionally I hit rock-bottom. I wanted to talk to someone that understood, but not a client (the shame!)

I was still very new to fb groups and as I could not find what I needed just for the UK I asked in a support group and I accidentally triggered the start of RDuk: 06:10am, October 16th 2015, Reactive Dogs UK was born.

I knew instinctively how my group would be different - it seemed to be fate - bringing my love of helping people, my professional coaching skills, my canine behaviour knowledge and my passion for dogs all together. The feel of the group is unique - 'the most amazingly compassionate and supportive group on facebook" (members' words, not mine) providing 121 and group coaching, we have fun, learn, laugh, facilitate local connection, keep everyone safe and just help people love life with their dog again.

Jen is doing brilliantly by the way but more about that another day.

She is my reason for living, my rock, my companion and my greatest teacher in canine behaviour. RDuk would not exist without her and my life will never be the same, that’s for sure.

What a lovely introduction, though of course I'm sorry about Jen's experience. I have heard great things about Reactive Dogs UK from several people, so it's great to have you on board :)

Hello and welcome. Sorry for Jen's extreme experience. What you have both learned from that will help many other dogs and owners, though.

Thank you - it was a bit traumatic for her (and me too if I'm being honest). Seeing and hearing your dog get bitten 9-10 times is not pleasant. My support group has helped 34,000 owners over the past 6 years so yup.. it actually has had some good come from it! xxx
