Yesterday, (5th Aug) DPD emailed me to notify a delivery will arrive on MONDAY and that they would notify my delivery slot by 11 am.
This morning (I didn't check the time) a DPD van pulled up at front of the house, and a man with a box walked up the path with a parcel, (the one I was expecting on Monday).
This afternoon at about 4.50 pm. I had both an email and a text message from DPD saying that my parcel would be delivered today between 10.35 and 11.35am. Hmm o_O

Meanwhile, Mr R ordered something and paid extra for next-day delivery, which should have been yesterday. When he checked the tracking late yesterday afternoon, it told him that the parcel had been put on the van in Preston, Lancs... and was now in Edinburgh... He chased it (not literally;)) as he wanted a refund of the priority postage he'd paid for, but they couldn't refund it as it still had a couple of hours to get here..... on the south coast... To be fair, he did manage to get his refund today, and the parcel also turned up special delivery today.

That’s time travel - impressive.

We had a DPD delivery a day early so he tried to hide it under some rubble in our front garden hoping it wouldn't be found until the next day ...if they delivery a day early they dont get paid for it :(
I was in the bedroom ironing ...when I shouted OI you haven't even knocked the door he was quite indignant and mumbled something in Romanian :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I’m quite lost here. Obviously I don’t get out much - why aren’t they paid if they deliver early?

They get paid per parcel on the day it is supposed to be delivered ...if you report that it has arrived early it doesn't get included....our lovely DPD driver left because of this ...I would never complain or tell them I had received it early

Thanks for clearing that up, Tinytom. It’s come to a sorry state when efficiency is penalised.

It might be that if the company promises to get an item to you on Tuesday and it turns up on Monday they are, strictly speaking, in breach of their contract with you. And some people like to plan to be around when a parcel turns up if they haven't got a safe place for it to be left, so prefer an exact date rather than 'you will have it by Tuesday'.

Where we are, most courier service drivers know that parcels are quiet safe to be left at the front door or in our second car that is never locked. DPD always take a picture of where the parcel has been left. We are never away from home for long, and an early delivery is just a bonus.:)

I take your point, JudyN. However, had Tinytom’s delivery man rang the bell to hand over the parcel, wouldn’t that have been efficient service? Had there been no one in, then delivering on the following day would have sufficed.

Yes, you'd think that would be fine, wouldn't you, RPG? As much as delivery drivers get criticised, some of it well earned, I think they're also being exploited. You hear so much about them ebing given ridiculous workloads and no rights for very little pay. And if the people who use them can get out of paying them because they delivered a day early, then no doubt many will

My husband is a machine operator doing ground works for a huge housing estate..if he works too fast he gets told to slow down as they arent paid to do the job that quickly ...this world has gone mad :eek::oops::rolleyes:

Tinytom, you remind me of when I was 16 (1965/66) and working on a poultry farm, I had been put into some battery houses to collect eggs with two other women. One day (I don't know how long I had been thee) they said to me that I should slow down as I was collecting the eggs too fast, I was collecting eggs from one house and finishing, where there were two of them collecting the other house together ! Lazy women, always puffing away at their cigarettes.o_O

That is why I gave up in the nursing sector...working with clients with dementia to me meant the clients came 1st 2and and 3rd but apparently the staff having a fag break was more important than helping someone to the toilet resulting I'm clients soiling themselves and being very upset ...I raised a complaint and was sent a disciplinary letter that I was critical of my colleagues...I left and started my own home help business...that was 13 yrs ago ...

That was admirable of you, Tinytom. You start wondering how some people could sleep at night. There’s always someone who selects their own spin on certain issues. Glad you chose the moral ground. AND you’ve got lovely hounds.
