So my partner went into our bedroom and noticed our dog (Patterdale Terrier) had climbed in to our 6wk old baby boys cot and was licking his face. My partner has had this worry that our dog would hurt the baby, maybe chew his face etc. The dog (Sadie) is the most timid, mild mannered dog there can be and I told my partner her thoughts were wild as Sadie hasn't got a nasty bone in her body but since we caught Sadie in the babies cot she can't stop thinking if we didn't walk in the room when we did that her thoughts about the dog harming baby etc would have came true!! Can anyone tell of past experiences or stories they've heard of same breed dog doing such a thing?
Thanks.

Not this breed but Im sure if you google you could find lots of horror stories. The thing is the good stories dont get reported and they out number the bad a million to one. Personally I would discourage the dog from getting into the crib a babygate on the foor or a net over the crib? Simply to avoid any accidents.

Babies and dogs should always be supervised together. As an example, a child with no motor skills could accidentally hurt the dog, and the best tempered dog in the world could react to the sudden shock and pain.

Those 'cute' photos of babies and toddlers snuggled up with, or on the backs of dogs (where frankly, the dog often looks very unhappy) make my blood run cold.

But managed interactions are important, where both dog and child learn how to behave properly with each other.

Indeed I have a photo from when my son was about two years old and he's actually fallen asleep on the sofa and leaned over against our dog, she just sat there. I snapped the photo and then immediately moved him so that she was free to move. I don't show / post that photo because it encourages bad practice in people looking for that " cute " photo.

You really need to listen to your Partner. Whether her concerns are well founded or not, she is obviously worried, so she should be listened to.

I don't believe it's acceptable for any dog to climb into a crib with a baby. Your dog could harm your baby accidentally.

She may mean no harm, but, she's a terrier and many of them will react to squealing or high pitched noises. If your baby begins to cry, you do not know how your dog will react.

You need to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
