Phew! Not looking forward to this next heatwave. :( Im glad I'm retired. O worked in kennels and cattery for some years and it was
a night mare when it was hot.

We were up and out down by the river at 07.00 this morning meeting other dog walkers. Lovely and cool and Mabel was in her element flirting with her boy whippet friend (the hussey). Followed this with a bacon sandwich (sorry, judyN) and a latte at the Riverside Café terrace.

It’s the River Wye. It IS low at the moment - haven’t seen any canoes 🛶 on it for the past few days but it is beautiful. I don’t take it for granted - we’re very lucky. Although our hearts went out to others we did enjoy lockdown.

MrN had to take his motorbike in to be serviced and MOTed yesterday - 45-min ride through traffic, then back home on a loan bike, and today he had to go back over to pick it up. All in full leathers & helmet, and slow-moving traffic. He's had better rides.

My sympathies 100% but good to know that he’s wearing protective albeit uncomfortable clobber.

I must admit I chose to take my car to work today as opposed to my scooter, to avoid the extra heat of my leather, even though it's probably a bit thinner than an armoured bike leather, so I can feel for Mr N! It blows my mind how many people I see riding in shorts and t shirts!

I agree - on one of the rare occasions I rode pillion I found it very easy to imagine what the state of my body would be if we skidded and I came off and slid along the tarmac. It wouldn't have been pretty.

I did enjoy it, but the bike really wasn't designed for two up, and with us both being in leathers I couldn't really wrap my arms round him to hang on, so Iended up gripping with my legs. It was a few days before I could walk properly after 🤣 Plus with him being tall and broad and me being short, the view was rubbish!

Shame we spent all that money on leathers for me, but he'd never have let me on without them.

What bike does he ride? I've ridden all my adult life until the pandemic when I sold my bike as we weren't allowed out :-( Thinking about getting another one...

So hot ....... :(

Lounge was 27C this morning,
Bungo is fine when on the cool blanket, but starts panting soon after getting up.
Worried about my gerbils in this heat.

Have you tried the freezer packs wrapped in pillow cases I used to use these for gerbils and guinea pigs ...

Closing the windows and closing the curtains didnt make much difference. My living room faces so South so it gets pretty hot. Have fans going.

@ForestWomble Hope the gerbils will be ok.

That trick hasn't been working here for this heatwave either, hope you get some relief soon.

Thank you

I haven't tried that will have to look into them, but I have a Trixie cool plate, it stays cool and you can put it in the fridge for extra coolness which I've been doing.
They also have a terracotta flower pot and a terracotta sand bowl, as well as lots of hemp and hay bedding.

At least it's supposed to be cooling down tomorrow.
