How Many Times Aday Do You Feed?

hi all

just looking for some advice

we feed harley twice aday he has musli on a morning with milk and his normal complete around 6pm after weve been out for out evening walk,

do you weigh food out? i have been thinking to start doing this?

with his musli i use a (tub what you get hummas in and fill that level add his warm milk mix and he loves it!

and for tea he has his complete, i use an ordinary cup and scoop to the top and steep it as he likes it better like this, harley is 25lbs we have maintained his weighted since he came to stay with us but he looks better IMO anyway, like more muscle and general appearance and eyes,coat and so on and more confident,

am i feeding him too much for his weight or to less? shoule he have a meal inbetween?

i know ive said hes come on alot since we got him so must be doing something right but would like you opinions on feeding and how much for his size!

would it be worth me getting some weighing scales?

i will post some new pics later on from our walk later on!

I feed mine twice daily plus a biscuit (Bonio or the like) to go to bed with and small snack biscuits/complete as a treat whenever they are recalled out on exercise.

For breakfast they have a chicken wing or turkey neck chunks (why do you not feed yours dog food for breakfast??)

For supper they have minced raw tripe, or tripe/lamb mix, or tripe/beef mix with either puppy meal/mixer or Burgess supagreyhound complete (used as a mixer not as a meal on its own)

If they need any medication they get this is a spoonful of Butcher tinned tripe (if it is a morning dose) or in their main meal
 
Have a look on the FAQ Maz so many people do things differently it's all down to personal choice and knowing what suits your own dogs really I think :D

Up to around 9 months I feed twice a day, then gradually cut down to once a day but obviously a decent portion I do weight out and give a mix of raw and redmills, it suits mine, and I do have to keep them at a balanced weight for racing,(dont like them too skinny though) if they are overweight they run totally differently I suppose a few extra pound on them would be like a few extra stone on us :eek:

I think if I didnt give Kane any food at all he'd still be fat :lol: :wub:
 
Mine are fed ad lib,they are on a premium complete and they graze all day.

BTW,I personally would'nt give cows milk to any dog,it can cause digestive problems and really is'nt good for them.If you must give milk make it goats milk. :thumbsup:
 
Personally,

I wouldn't give a dog milk. They cannot digest lactose and it can give them the runs or a sore tum. It's simply not good for them.

Humans are the only animals that can digest milk properly beyond babyhood.

My dog is roughly 8mth old. I feed her Burns Mini Bites twice daily. She eats her evening meal with gusto. Breakfast she is a little more relaxed about. If she hasn't eaten it all within half an hour it gets thrown out. Though she does usually clear the plate by then.

If we get take away of course she gets a bit of sausage added into her dinner. ;) And has sampled some chicken fried rice as well. :- "

Her treats for training and recall etc are taken out of her daily food allowance.

Edited to add:

When I first got her I weighed out her food in a cup. Now I know how much a cup weighs and just measure it out with that to feed her.

blue has chicken wings for brecki and ollie has bakers complete as hes not fussed on chicken wings and they have a bowl of bakers compleate down all time so they can munch when they want .then for tea they have mince ,tripe or chicken and tripe or beef and tripe ,sumtimes steak and treats and bones inbetween :thumbsup: ooo and blue likes his little tipple of fosters beer on sat night :D
 
Mine (8mths and 18mths) are fed dried food twice a day. They both love it, they get the runs on tinned stuff :b . :oops: .

For variety I sometimes add a raw egg or some oil to the food to tempt them.

All mine are racers so each have there own food weighed out for them once a day, they all have different amounts as they are all different weights, my oldies are also fed once a day, if we have any pups they are on 4 meals a day up till around 6 months then we knock one off untill 8 months then another at 10 months, normaly by the time they get to 12 months they are on one meal a day weighed out to there requirment that they all get at 6pm.
 
little D has a bowl of compleat down all day to help herself and a third of a can for tea, she has a steady weight of 5.5kg (she is only a jack russel) which the vet is pleased with
 
I could never leave food down all day because Kane would eat it all day until he popped :eek: :lol:
 
My two get either Chicken wings for breakfast or sardines thats around 8.30 /9am

and Raw Tripe, chicken, beef, lamb whatevers in the freezer with a little mixer, raw veggies and sometimes pasta or rice too. Usually around 6pm.

Twice a day ..... but sometimes they get maybe a raw bone, or puff jerky or tripe sticks in between the meals as a treat only.
 
hi, i do feed him dog food for breckfast! its a musli based cerial for working dogs, just been to the vet to have him weighed and he is weighing in at 25.3lbs :thumbsup:

I feed mine twice a day. If i only fed once, i wouldn't be able to get the total amount of food down Holly that i would want. She won't eat a great deal all at once. Plus, if i only fed once a day, they'd be pinching like mad come the evening!
 
Mine are all fed twice a day, a smaller amount in the morning. All mine are good eaters except Lily, though she has got better. All except Lily would like to move in with anyone who leaves down food all day (w00t) . They also want to know if the bowl is re-filled each time they empty it! :lol: :lol:

yep ther all welcome at mine and yes the bowl is refilled as soon as its empty :lol:
 
Feed Mitch once a day. Can't leave food down all day otherwise the JR's would look like !!!!!!!. They do get buiscuits when I leave for work in a morning and again at Lunchtime (as a treat) but there is always room for more.

little D is a good girl and not abit greedy, she only takes food when she is hungry bless her, it dont take much to fill her she is a dot

Could you keep a look-out for four Whippets and a terrier, I think they are on their way! (w00t)
 
We could leave food down all day for the 5 grehounds the lurcher and lacey the first whhippet and they were all fine held there weight nicly never got to fat or thin. But when we got Indy cos she was such a fussy eater we put all the dogs on 2 meals a day and they all piled the weight on so had to be cut down to one main meals plus something ligt for breaky
