aww come on guys hes just looking to rehome a whippet which is a good thing in my opion im shure ther are many out ther free to good home . who needs a good home and sofa to curl up on .and im shure when somone has to make a decision to rehome the home is more important than any money
Of course a good home is more important than money , I havnt said its not

and i didnt say you had :p :)

i also take HUGE offence that just because people like YOU dont want to pay for a dog that you are stating people who do charge must be in business

i have bred 1 litter in 4 yrs , that cost me over £1200 and got less than a third of that amount back with homing the pup , so please do not come on here asking for a FREE dog , label people as commercial breeders or business men

we have all had to pay for our dogs so why shouldnt you ?

I've pm'd you with details of a young black speyed bitch which a friend of mine is looking to rehome. Hope this is of some help.

Mel and Nicky, Thanks for your support and to those who have PM'ed me about dogs needing re-homing. I will let you two know how I get on. :D

having read this thread i can understand people having to make some kind of payment to rescue centres, but if a person is having to rehome their dogs for reasons beyond control then as long as a good genuine loving home is found is surely the main thing, we all spend a lot of money on our dogs and our dogs are valuable to all of us so surely they will be with us until the end unless the unfortunate circumstances turn up, i dont think money should always be the issue but the welfare of the dog, just my opinion, good luck rabbitrunner in rehoming some unfortunate whippet that may need it :luck: , and once again another thread that i feel is getting out of hand...

Hi Rabbitrunner, good luck in your search.

I think I understand the sentiment that you are making, I have had 1 of my whippets from rescue (where there is a compulsory donation) and I bought 1 from a K9 lady that bred but was no longer able to keep the dog because of a change in circumstances. In both instances there was money exchanged, I think however that the rescue one was in more need whereas when these guys on K9 breed them, you know the dogs will be looked after in a safe, warm and loving environment until a suitable home can be found.

Be warned though.. whippets are highly addictive and 1 is rarely enough.......

Let us know how you get on (whwre in the country are you by the way?)

I had to re-home wee Tam last year. I have loads of intreast in him but waited for that special home :D , he's now living with his sister Molly and Moira got him for free. This new home still posts photo's of him and gives me updates on how he's doing. Moira and I never spoke about money,,,just the home she and her family could give him

i rescued my dog from her owners, they were in a bad state and so was the dog, i would have paid whatever to get her out of there, but the owners wanted 'rid' so badly, they said 'just take her'.

she was worth the world over to me, but meant nothing to them. money doesnt come into how good a dog owner you are/can be, but its a goodwill gesture that shows commitment and respect.

you have to be willing to pay, or to just show a goodwill gesture, so if the owners dont want money, just send them flowers or something- i dont know, i suppose im just that sort of person!!

Im sorry , but I do not feel this is getting `out of hand ` at all ,

1) I only stated that one should not expect to get a whippet that is no longer required FOC

2) that K9 is not full of commercial breeders

3) and now people think he/she will give a whippet a `wonderful home ` without knowing any more about Rabbitrunner other that posting on here that she/he wants a `free `whippet ( he /she may well do but you get my drift )

This is a discussion forum , and not everyone thinks the same but `getting out of hand` , no sorry , youre wrong

edited to say , taking ill treated dogs away from poor owners is such a rewarding thing to do :huggles: but here we arnt talikng about unloved and uncared for whippets are we

Thanks Guys,

As I have maintained, I don't want to argue with anyone.. I was just trying to offer a good home to the breed I have come to really love. And with so many dogs out there looking for another chance it seemed the right thing to do.

I was going to provide details of a case in point of contact I had very recently with people who wanted to rehome a dog with issues with me, but I feel it pointless and I really am not interested in back stabbing, they know who they are !

Thanks to those who have not given me a unecessarily hard time and have shown understanding.

And for those who did, I hope it was just an off day, or maybe the judging did not go your way this time and I was the unfortunate recipient.

two ways of looking at this

1) IF this person has a genuine home lined up and ready for a whippet they can be commended on possibly accepting a dog who may have some "issues" etc

and all will be well

2) this person just wants a free dog .

ive homed several rescue dogs and not charged a penny for them to friends / family as i know they are gurenteed a good home and if i had the choice of say £400 and a crap home or no money and a good home then id go for the good home.

its the way its been posted and the comments off rabbitrunner saying that whippet breeders MUST be commercial if they are asking a fee for dogs or " making money as a business breeding them "

thats what gets me .

yes there are plenty of older dogs that need a home and most people on here wouldnt charge someone as long as a good home is assured .

I have no more to add to this thread. Its finished as far as I am concerned.

i thought we was talking about someone that was offering to give a dog a good home that was in need, because if the owners love the dogs and care a lot for them they wont be needing a home other than in unforseen circumstances, so should a dog need rehoming due to these circumstances should money really have to come into it, that was my point i was trying to make, and no i dont know rabbitrunner so could not comment wether or not the dog would have a good home or not but no one can imply that it wont either just because someone wants to offer a dog a good home without first paying for a dog, but surely the person would be vetted before letting the dog go to to any home, but saying that people that do sell pups at whatever cost cannot be 100% sure of them going to wonderful homes either and probably dont get vetted anyway. no offence intended to anyone, but as you say its a discussion forum so i was just adding my thoughts on it..

   I had a really good day actually . you would have got the same responce wether id won the CC or not , You appear to have a poor impression of us Whippet breeders/showers . I never meant a dig at you , just wondered why you thought you should get a whippet for nowt as saidi n a previous post , :- " nothing personnal as i so obviosly havent a clue who you are .

Good luck in your quest for a free whippet

"Lets say someone has bought a pup for £450, and for whatever reason they wish to re-home it, what should any potential new owner expect to pay ?? "

Here's my take on this above scenario.....Not £450,But make a donation suitable to all parties. It would also depend on how severe the pup's problems were? Would any body else be prepared to take it on...etc?

jmo.

Phill.

Surely the whole point of asking someone to contribute to the dog they want to rehome is to assess the level of commitment that person has to the dog? People usually appreciate something they've had to pay for a lot more than a "freebie". This is not true of everyone, obviously, but slating people, even without naming names, for asking for a financial contribution to a dog they have to rehome is not fair. No-one ever really knows the heartache that's gone into such a decision after all.
