Thanks Jax, glad you read it all through and managed to spot my deliberate mistake.

I know it wasn't Crufts but I will never forget when you showed your first whippet puppy, Director of Dondelayo, I think Terry Thorn was the Judge, and gave you a FIRST, how excited were you!!!

Spot on Irene , MY first EVER championship show in a class of 25 minor puppies , with all the top people there as it was the Golden Jubillee , Mary Lowe , Anne Knight, Barbara Wilton clark , Roma Wright Smith, June Minns to name but a few and they were all in my class (w00t) Of course at the time I didn't know who they were ;)

Simon not only won that class but Maiden as well :D . I remember standing in the middle of the ring , my legs all shaky realising we had qualified for crufts ( that's when only 1st prize winners qualified :- " ) I could see people looking in their catalogue thinking `whose that ?` . of course Ann Knight was well pleased .

When I got home my OH said how have you managed to drive safely you re on such a high ` Quite easy really , as the people who came with me didn't get a place :blink:

AND I got 2nd at Crufts with him too :cheers: under Bobby Cooke at that . A lady who really loved her fawns , and Simon was brindle and white

ah Jax, what a great story :huggles: and how nice that you didn't know who was in the ring with you at your first champ show :unsure:

sadly for me, I've been 'in' whippets for 10 years before getting my first show dog so unfortunately recognised many faces in the ring around me for Monty's first show, :sweating: didn't help my nerves much :x :lol:

Irene, well done :cheers: very interesting to see so many names still in the ring 20 or 30 years later :D

DCC CH Barmoll Blackthorn owned by Mary Rigby. So a double for Molly McConkey with two Barmolls winning the Tickets. The bitch was BOB I think.

Thanks for posting all that Irene, very interesting.

The first time I showed at Crufts was 1994, when I was just 9!

One of my favourite memories of Crufts was in 2005 and Jessi was judging dogs, in Junior she pulled Kevan Ellis' dog Oakbark Man Of Power At Railfield out first, the look of joy on his face was incredible and the he picked the dog up in his arms and ran into the middle of the ring!

i can remember that day alayna it was my first time ever at crufts and i think i only new kevan so i was watching that class with interest :thumbsup:

Thanks Irene this has brought back so many happy memories for me. We won Post Graduate Bitch in 1978 under Irene Wood, I'm staggered to think that was 29 years ago. I first went to Crufts in 1961, I went with my dad on a coach, it was such a thrill watching Best In Show from the Balcony at Olympia. I don't think the coach set off back until 7.30 or something, and I can remember standing for ages looking at the models of dogs on one of the stands, and what do I do for a living lnow, sell model dogs (amongst other things).

Crufts in 1961 would have been just breed classes and obedience if my memory serves me right, hard to imagine isn't it.

Another happy memory from Crufts l978.

Tears of joy all round as Ch Flarepath Astrinomical (who was bred by Irene Wood, today's Judge) could contain himself no longer from the ringside (where he was waiting to be judged) and once his lead was released by Rachael Flatt (his present owner) shot across the ring and leapt straight into the arms of the Judge who had no option but to catch him.

Rachael then very sportingly withdrew him from the competition.

From memory he got as much applause as the CC winner on the day, and then returned to Rachael with a look of satisfaction on his face as much as to say I told you I knew her.

What fun our dogs have brought us over the years and especially at Crufts .

I have only ever bred 1 litter and there was only 1 dog puppy which I kept . We managed to qualify him at his first Champ show ,his only Champ show with tickets for shibas before Crufts away back then .

We got to Crufts and felt a bit overwhelmed but I couldn't believe it when we came away with best puppy in breed under Ann Arch . I was so proud of my wee Chip as he had beaten all the well knowns in the breed .

We floated home to Scotland on cloud 9 :teehee:
