hello. not been on for a while so its nice to be back! Our pup lester is now over 16 weeks old and gorgeous. the thing is, we cant find a coat to fit him as he is growing by the day. he wouldnt go out this morning as its cold out and i felt mean trying to walk him. any advice on how to keep a little growing whippet warm? got him a xmas jumper from Asda but its not really for walks!

help! :( thanks!

Have you had a look in the market place, citycroft do great coats and im sure Jok could make one slightly bigger so lester can grow into it, they are a reasonable price as well

Hi, my whipp was also a little pup over the winter and someone advised me to buy a kid/baby fleece or similar from a charity shop and cut the legs off to make it fit  I never did try that as I got a fairly cheap waterproof coat from Jans Gifts in the smallest size they did. Had to pin the sides up to start with as she kept tripping over it :- " but then as she grew it was good for the whole winter so may be worth thinking about  I agree that a cold whippet is a miserable one, I would only take him on little walks in the cold or wet weather.

thanks guys, will have a look in the market place. xx

When I got my first whippet a few years ago (he was a September baby) we had the same problem - in the end I bought a coat from Jaycoats which was obviously a little large for him (it looked like he'd inherited an older sibling's cast-off!) but he grew into it surprisingly quickly.

Better to be a bit too big ("you'll grow into it!" :D ) than no coat at all - it's sooooo cold this morning, they do need something.

We've just received a fleece coat* from Jok and it's fantastic! And I think her prices are really reasonable.

Another way of looking at it is this - if you buy a "middling-size" coat to see you through to the spring, then an "adult-size" coat for thereafter, you can save your smaller middling-size coat for your next whippy :- "

*to wear as PJs :D

thankyou! what next whippy.....

Jo at Citycroft has made all of Bluebells coats (her extensive wardrobe - bigger than mine  )

They fit perfectly and such good prices for puppy coats - and she knows just how much growing space to put in - so they are wearable - but last :huggles:

Never had coats for dogs before that fit so well :))
