Which Coats And Beds?

Ok so now we have the lovely little lady lined up to collect on 27th dec....... (w00t)

The question is.... which coats are the best and which beds are the best, i want a squishy bed with a waterproof rip-proof outer so i can wipe it claen when shes muddy, i have seen one in pets at home but it is £50!!! I prefer the bed kind rather than the flat ones and like the idea of having fleece on one side of the cushion for cosyness. Is this the general price of a bed?? I also want a coat but am not sure if she needs one, she has lived in kennels all her life (shes just turned 2) and she has a really think fluffy coat to compensate, when we bring her home obviously she will be living with central heating and will loose some of this coat, and then she might feel the cold more? what do you all think?

Any ideas?
 
If you know anyone who has a card for Batley's i'd definitely give them a try for their beds. We've just got 3 really good one's 2 HUGE doughnut shaped one's with raised edges for a nice headrest when they're snoozing (fits 2 big whippets in easily so i'd imagine they'd be just right for a greyhound) for the oldies they are washable and different fabric either side of the cushion same size £70 in pets at home. One for the pup, furry grey, again washable. All were £15 each, just shows what the pet shops add on.

I am in manchester too were is Batley's it sounds to good to be true we are in middelton?
 
hiya have a look on pet planet think its .co.uk they have some fab beds we just got phoebe one from them and she totally loves it me and my oh had our first night in our bed alone last night since we have had phoebe as although she had 8 beds of her own she has always slept in our bed but now we have this beautiful designer bed for her from pet planet she actually sleeps in it!!!! its great as its the same height as our bed so she can still see us as you know whippys dont like to be down low so now shes right next to us but in her own purple fur bed and its great yippeeeee.......also for coats pj,s house coats take a look at ak creations some lovely clothes on there. hope this is of some help. kat.xxx

They sound really good Vicky, could you put some pics on please as I have had my eye on a bed in pets@home for £70 just wondered if they are the same !

Of course she needs a coat - you can have loads of fun with coats - also that kennel coat will come out in a couple of weeks and then she'll be freeeeeeeeezing!

Max and Tiny have got a waxed jacket and a waterproof fleece and a waterproof from Jan's Gifts, they also have a glitzy jumper from Laney's Jumpers and pyjamas from Needlenose Apparel and Iceberg Creations :thumbsup: :huggles:

These photos were taken on the first time they wore them so they were a bit unsure because they didn't smell of them. Now they love wearing them and Tiny would wear his pj's all day if I'd let him.

There is a pic of the boys on Laney's Jumpers - the jumpers are blue and purple with black/gold trim.

Oh and the beanbag (which I need to put more beans in) came from Barka Parka. The cover is washable and pretty sturdy. That bed is now 2 and a half years old and still going strong. :thumbsup:

She will definitely need a coat even though she is used to being in kennels. We had Button from the trainers kennelsi October and her coat was just beggining to get fluffy.

You will probably find she will pant quite a bt when she first comes into the house as she will probably find it a lot hotter than i the kennels. She will loose her fluffy coat and it will flatten .She will need a coat on when going for walks as she will soon get used to living in the warmth of your house and will the feel the cold outside.

You could try JO K on here she makes whippet coats and could be able to make a bigger one for your bitch. If you can get the lady who has her to measure her from the bottom of her neck to the top of her tail were it joins her bum as different dogs need dofferent size coats my William has a 32" coat but Butto has a 28" coat
 
There's a brilliant selection of dog beds on e-bay - just search on 'dog beds' and you'll get pages of them.

Greyhounds like to sprawl (often flat on their backs with their legs sticking up in the air :blink: ) so they like mattress-type beds with space to spread out rather than beds where they have to curl up. I've always found the most practical thing is a folded duvet, it's cheap and warm and the covers are easy to wash.

As far as coats go, both Greyhound Gap and TRPD do greyhound coats with all the profit going to help rescues :)

I have asked the lady who has her to measure her for me so i can hopefully get the coat before xmas :thumbsup: I thought her coat would flatten, it makes sense in the warm. :D

Would be nice to try a coat from someone on here so will try the links and also the charity ones as i like that idea too..... :wub:

Looks like i'll be getting the bed from Pets at Home as i cant seem to find one elsewhere which is the same. I have seen the lady on here makes the snuggle beds and will be ordering one of those once i know she will use it, at the moment she wont be used to a snuggle bed as they were bed on raised cloth type beds. Will be lovely later on though to see her all snuggled in.

Also to add, buy a cheap double duvet and cover and fold up.

Easily washed and dried and they love lying flat out ;)
 
We use duvets as well - easy to wash the covers and the duvets if need be, pkus you can open them out so the dog goes in the middle and is all snuggly if it is very cold. :huggles:
 
Mine just have the largest plastic bed, with a duvet inside. I brought the plastic ones on ebay 2nd hand about £5. They snuggle into the duvet and I wash the covers once a week and the duvet once a month. I find it better to keep the duvet in a bed otherwise mine sprawl all over the floor and tails can be trodden on.

I brought my dog coats from the www.grwe.co.uk, so that the charity makes the profit, the fleece lined ones and they love them. There also have sweaters from www.k9knitters.co.uk, which are lovely.
 
Fleet has a platic bed with vetbebs and blanckes in it and it keeps him nice a warm. He did have a duvet but I came home from work one day and it look like it had been snowing.

My old girl had a nice soft bed but the only thing I found was trying to get it wash and dry as it was bigger than my washer.

Your new grey will need a coat I got fleets blizzer from Jansgift she is very good I phone Monday afternoon and it was here be Wesenday, Fleets rain mac I got it from greyhoundmegastore.com and what I like about his mac it is velcro not tis.

Hello. We adopted our lovely girl in April, she'd been in RSPCA kennels for 9 months. We went for the folded duvet option for a bed, which is fine during the day but she spends the night pushing us out of our bed. I got her a lovely lined raincoat for the cooler days and a "blizzard coat" with a thick lining for this nasty cold weather. They are both from Jan's Greyhound gifts and they are great. Our girl can't bear being cold.
 
TK Maxx near me have some really posh waterproof beds with washable covers :thumbsup:

Check out Alfyn's snuggle sacks and Jo K's coats at Citycroft, whippet shopping is obsessive :lol:
