I have become aware of the rumours concerning my absence form the Andover Open. on the 13th April. I wish therefore to clarify the situation.

Points of Information:

1.I did not go the Andover because I chose to attend West Somerset to enable Margaret to run a club meeting. My husband Chris ran the lure all day and I helped on the traps. All my racing dogs ran or trialled there and my 12 week old puppy was at the meeting.

2. Gracie (W.C.R.Ch /Sp Ch Graceful Chimes),started to cough on the morning of the 23rd of April, (Wednesday). For the benefit of all the k9 veterinary experts she showed no signs of ill health prior to this.

3.I immediately rang other members of the committee where the decision was taken to cancel the South Cotswolds Open on the 27th.This was effected the same day.

4. My other affected dogs are Dobbie,( Chimes @ Midnight), and Savita,(Brilliant Chimes). She coughed briefly but is now fully recovered.

5.My veteran dogs and the puppies are so far unaffected.

6.I understand that the virus can be shed by dogs for a period of up to three weeks after recovery. My dogs will not therefore be at race meeting until the end of May at the earliest.

I hope this statement nows stops the speculation and innuendoes. What a sad scene the pedigree racing world has become!

Well done, what a sensible dog owner you are.Two lots of my friends dogs had recently had it,and they kept thier dogs well away from others for 3 weeks. They both have several dogs,so it took ages to go.

Amandaxx

Im glad they are all feeling better Julia...............we are all doing alright up here so far. :sweating:

We raced at South Cotswold on the 19th and none of Julia dogs were showing any signs of kennel cough then as I know she would have cancelled the meeting if they had. This was the first race meeting of the year for us and was my pup Prudies first trialing session unfortunately one of the dogs we raced McFly has come down with kennel cough today. But to paraphrase my son old dog I'm Not Bitter its just one of those things quite often dogs can carry the infection with out the owners knowing we can all be wise after the event. like the Peppermint clan we will not go any where untill June its a b----dy nuisance as we had hoped to get the puppy racing but worse things can happen as I know too well so I will pour myself a stiff drink and just carry on .

Well I haven't heard any rumours about you Julia but I think you acted very responsibly by cancelling the Cotswolds Open straight away. I'm sure nobody thinks you are to blame Julia. I think most people realise that one of the reasons why KC spreads so quickly is that dogs seem to be shedding the virus before they cough and that the owner has no way of knowing until they do.

First I've heard, but then again I am a mushroom according to JJ.

Glad we have been injured for a month, so to speak.

I think clubs that have cancelled meetings and Opens are thoroughly responsible and it takes away any doubt that people may inadvertently attend whilst being unaware their dogs are incubating a virus.

It is really vile being the subject of malicious and untrue gossip, I genuinely feel for you having been through it myself Julia.

Hope the dogs are all recovering well.
