We all remember the late Polly Bore who was sadly taken from her family and friends in the early Spring of this year.
David, Polly's partner,has asked me to post the following, to all of us,on his behalf:
Polly's family and I want to thank all of you who gave us your kind and loving thoughts and wishes at what was a very difficult time for us. We continue to miss her so much but want you to know that your support has helped us immeasurably in coping with her loss.
Some of Polly's happiest moments were with her beloved whippets, her involvement in whippet club activities and enjoying the deep friendships she made there. You will know that Polly enjoyed great success in both hare and lure coursing with her two dogs, Cheydanhar Appache Chief ( Finch-co-owned with Clive Searson ) and Banatay Bonanza (Eddie ). I was privileged to accompany Polly on a couple of occasions but I also saw the hard work she put in with them at home which made them successful. I am fortunate to now have Finch and Polly's non competing whippet Zaffre so I have a constant reminder of her. Polly was so grateful that Pat and Joe Gant agreed to have Eddie, it gave her such peace of mind to know that he was with someone for whom she had such affection and respect.
Polly was quick to recognise a good hound, generous in her praise for others, and I liked the fact she used to tell me how she admired some of the other hounds and owners that she competed against. She so enjoyed her time with you, happily regaling me when she got home with tales of what Tony, Bob, Fred and Russell etc., had got up to. It was good to see so many of you at the funeral.
Melissa and I very much appreciated the hospitality of the East Anglian Whippet Country Club at Henham where the meet was held in Polly's honour. We are eternally grateful to Andrea who has done so much for us- arranging special cards for the meet, getting photographs for us, etc. etc., at a time when she herself is not in the best of health.
Thanks also to Chris Doyle for his kind and thoughtful tribute and for putting this onto the website for me.
It is fair to say that Polly's life had it's share of cares and worries with which she coped admirably and we remember her as a capable and fiercely independent lady. It is pleasing to know that she was able to retain much of that independence, and all of her dignity until the end. Thankfully, her later years were relatively relaxed and happy (probably coinciding with the introduction of a pair of whippets into her life!! )
From the time of the diagnosis of her illness in September 2006, Polly knew that she could not be cured. She simply fought bravely and positively, with good humour, to stay with her family ( especially her three grand children whom she adored- Lucy, Daizy and Joe ), her friends and of course her beloved whippets for as long as possible. She was the one who kept OUR spirits up, throughout her illness.
I have attached a few photos of Polly. I thought her so beautiful, from the day I first met her over 11 (all too short ) years ago until the day she died. The ones with the hat were taken at her daughter Melissa's wedding in August 2005. Those and the one in typical pose with her grand daughters show her as we will remember her, beautiful, warm-hearted, happy and vibrant.
