I would also demand to know if the dog was vaccinated/microchipped/flea treated/wormed whilst in their care. Also was it given any other medical treatment.

I know they often immediately vaccinate dogs that arrive in their care.

I suppose in a way it is theft. They took a dog that was being cared for without finding out who owned said dog.

They really are the pits.

Good outcome, but don't let it drop.

I am glad you got the dog back, he/she looks lovely!

Just wanted to add that I used to work at an RSPCA shelter and it was a lovely place. The people I worked with did fantastic jobs, a few of us were volunteers, giving up our own time to help out. The manager was also a lovely lady and sorted everything out. I saw some really badly treated animals come in, and get looked after and rehomed.

So please, before bad mouthing an organisation realise that some parts of it may not be so bad!
