Dear All

Yes, I can confirm we cancelled the 2nd WCRA Champs when we had our committee meeting yesterday, but only because we needed a blank date for a Club Reps Meeting. We have to sort arrangements before announcing details, but your Club Secs will be advised ASAP. Entries for the 2nd Champs will be valid for the 3rd Champs if the owners wish, again we'll need to get the admin processes sorted.

We DO need to go public. The last club reps meeting wasn't the time, however.

There's no point in slinging mud, who's right and who's wrong, etc - as a sport we are in a bind and need to get a way forward together if we can. We on the WCRA committee don't want to junk forty years of pedigree racing, even if some may think it!

I may see some of you on 24 May, obviously can't say much more on the subject as we've a lot of work to do before then.

Best wishes

Mark

such a shame for the people that have put so much time into the WCRA.....if only DNA had been collected from the sire when asked (before he died) all this would have been resolved one way or the other by now!!i really dont think us racers are to blame for all this
Why doesn't the WCRA or the disaffect pedigree racers ask the owner of the suspected sire if he would oblige for a DNA test of the suspect sire or sires.. The DNA tests themselves aren't expensive so anumber of dogs could be tested. If "compensation" for his/her time , say £500 was offered ( paid for by the group of non believers) then surely he would have no good reason not to agree.Obviously a refusal wouldn't be consistant with being innocent , would it?

Mark if the only reason the Champs has been cancelled is to call a reps meeting, then that is another faux pas decision that the committee has made. You have only angered the racing public more by cancelling the Championships. Why not revoke the passports, and run the Champs like everyone wants. What is the point of you asking our decision, when you know that we will accept nothing less than a ban. Do you expect everyone to travel to say something we have all said in letters to the committee - none of which have been replied to?

I was very disappointed to hear of the WCRA's decision to cancel the second championships. As a secretary of an affiliated club, I look forward to the explanation the WCRA will give as to why this decision has been made. I wonder if the third and fourth championships are likely to go ahead. If they do, then I think the fourth champs should be changed to a straight to accommodate the veterans and the dogs who only run straights. The news of the second championships being cancelled was met with a mixture of disappointment and anger at my club today. The championships are the most prestigious events in the open calendar. They are the showpiece events in our sport. It has always been my understanding that the WCRA's role has been to stage the four championships each year, and to regulate and safeguard the integrity of pedigree whippet racing. I would hope that everyone on the WCRA also sees this as their role. If they don't, they should ask themselves why are they on the committee. All everyone wants is to have fair and honest racing, and to pit their pedigree whippet against other pedigree whippets to find out who has the best dog on the day. It can't be that hard, can it?
;) ;) ;)

What an excellent idea Tony. The WCRA has plenty of money, and could easily afford to do this

If the sire has died and a dna cant be taken from him,,did he sire another litter ?

If so,,can a sample from these pups not be taken to see if they match the dogs in question ?

I'm just wondering what the point of dragging us all to Moreton in Marsh is? They say two reps from each club can go and vote - what are we voting on? The WCRA know our views - we have all dropped Superstars - so what do they want to drag us to Moreton to vote again for? Do they expect people to come down from the Northern clubs and Scotland to have their say? If they take as much notice of our votes this time, as they take at the talk-ins, its a complete waste of time. I've thought it over tonight, and I say the clubs should write to the WCRA to say - the racers will accept nothing less than a ban.
We get nothing from the Whippet Club. The WCRA say that if they take away the passports of certain dogs, that the Whippet Club will give them back on appeal!!!! To start with how do they know that? They could have taken the passports away, and still run the next Champs - they owe it to the people who ran in the 28lb group last time - are they to miss out on two occasions of having the opportunity to become Champs, or beat the weight group record?

The WCRA was formed to run 4 Championship meetings, and to run the passport system to keep the sport to pure pedigree whippets - they have failed on both counts now - what is the point? We need a new, democratic organisation, who will listen to the people who spend their hard earned money travelling to take part in a sport they love.

I say if the WCRA cancel the next Champs, we should get together the new democratic organisation everyone has been talking about and craving. An organisation where each whippet owner gets a say. If the WCRA had been democratic this would never have come to this.

Sod chasing about the country to go to meeting that we have absolutely no control over - its a sham. There is enough time to put together our own Championships. The clubs have paid good money to affiliate to a governing body who have made the most almighty cock up.
Having attended my last WCRA meeting I can assure you that the committee are trying to preserve 40 years of whippet racing, they are in a no win situation at this moment and have decided to have this meeting to help resolve the problem within the rules that every affiliated club has a copy of and agree with, I,m sure racers will decide for themselves as to whether they attend or not. you speak of a new democratic organisation, would this involve the people who have made personal threats to others and put presure on clubs not to run for superstars and shown the most unsporting behaviour at the 1st championship presentation, I wish you good luck if this is the avenue you decice to walk.

I don't know of any personal attacks Paul, I think you are listening to a few stories. Quite a few have come from that side, and they would have you believe they are scared to leave the house. They didn't act like that last Sunday. We all love our sport, and are not the type to make personal attacks on others.

Perhaps you could explain this no win situation for us? As far as we can see from the outside it is friends acting for their friends - certainly not for the clubs as it should be. Plenty of people have done what they should in writing letter to the committee. This goes back many months, and not one of us have had a reply. Do you wonder why everyone is so exasperated?

Well well well, this smacks of hypocrisy!

censorship has occurred on BOTH sides and is only undertaken if you make PERSONAL comments about people. If this is the route you choose, Scott then what do you expect. You are capable of reading K9 rules just like everyone else. They have been in place for a very long time!

If the sire has died and a dna cant be taken from him,,did he sire another litter ?
If so,,can a sample from these pups not be taken to see if they match the dogs in question ?
we have been in contact with the kennel club over this, and only parents DNA would be accepted to prove parentage....all sibling DNA will do is prove they are related to each other, it wont prove they are from said sire!!

i will ask the question again, why are we fighting this battle when the people involved choose NOT to supply the test needed when asked, then by some sudden turn of fate the sire died!!!!!!!! that speaks for it's self really..........and the total joke of it all, we all said back LAST summer he would snuff it before his DNA was collected

the same story really as the champs when the 28lb group final was the ONLY race not to have a time   we had all already said that as well

i like many others feel really gutted about all this and it has clouded the sport for almost a year now :(

just to clear another thing up, the racers are not just going on the speed of these dogs.....please have a long hard look  when crufts show judges agree that they look nothing like a "typical" whippet and still nothing gets done, i really cant see a way back from this :(

I know that the easy answer to this is to just take away the passports and everything goes back to normal, but what is normal when your head is in the noose, the owners have provided DNA for the dame and pups, which we all know does not mean much without the a DNA from the sire, so we have taken a DNA from a previous litter that the sire has produced and matched it with the DNA of the litter in question, the committee could find nothing wrong, they have produced 5 generation peddigree's and they have been looked at by the seconders as procedures require, that is the factual evidence that the WCRA have, I am not trying to defend or attack anyone hear just dealing with the facts as any democratic system would have to do. But in your words "we will accept nothing less than a ban" so where do we go from here, a meeting to discuss events to-date and present any further factual evidence not hearsay to all attending. You vote on people as WCRA committee members to act in your best interests within the rules and powers available to them so please do not loose sight of this.

And yes June I do expect people to travel if they value the future of peddigree whippet racing and championship meetings, why would they not unless they were hell bent on destoying the very thing that we have all helped to build over the years.

Well said Paul. There are people wanting the distruction of the WCRA and using these dogs to do it,which is sad . I hope this meeting does iron out a few problems but it may just attract a few new ones. Whippet racing used to be such fun what the hell happened? It makes you want to weep.

I wait with baited breath for the results/opinion of a SECOND genetisist to explain how brindle puppies can be born to a fawn/blue mating. I have heard of an exteme situation that may explain an odd throw back, but how many do you accept as likely in one liiter.

Paul, you are taking a lot of this personally. Your leaving the committee is yet another reason that this sorry episode has angered the racers.

As regards the DNA - it has been told to us from an expert in this field that DNA testing of siblings in now way can prove the sire. He said you would need at least 5 siblings to even contemplate it. So tell me this - why were only one other litter tested? This said litter has not been entirely without question itself. You say the owners co-operated with providing DNA from other litters - the first litter we are told either are not here anymore, or cannot be found - but what about the litter they didn't mention? Is that what you call co-operation? How can you as a committee tell the owners that as a condition of getting these dogs passported, they must provide the dogs for DNA profiling - then when they say the sire is dead, its OK afterall!!!

This opens the door for other to do the same - breed with whatever you like and then say the parents are dead - if its OK for one, its OK for all - but then we know that is not the case. Just because one owner threatens legal action, you all go cowering in fright. I think you will find that is legal action was taken, it would be for them to prove you incorrect - they cannot do that as they have NO proof.

I may see some of you on 24 May, obviously can't say much more on the subject as we've a lot of work to do before then.

Best wishes

Mark
Mark if the only reason the Champs has been cancelled is to call a reps meeting, then that is another faux pas decision that the committee has made. You have only angered the racing public more by cancelling the Championships. Why not revoke the passports, and run the Champs like everyone wants. What is the point of you asking our decision, when you know that we will accept nothing less than a ban. Do you expect everyone to travel to say something we have all said in letters to the committee - none of which have been replied to?
If "the passports" were revoked then it would mean that the bully boys and gossips would have won!

Democracy does have its downside.Look at Lynch mobs!

What has happened Sue is that there are those who are intent to win by hook or by crook.

No one wanted to see the end of the WCRA, but the facts are that the WCRA was formed to run 4 Champs meeting, and run the pasport system to keep the sport clean. They are now failing on both of these tasks, so the racing public feel there is no other way than to form another association who can uphold the integrity of the sport.

Dear AllYes, I can confirm we cancelled the 2nd WCRA Champs when we had our committee meeting yesterday, but only because we needed a blank date for a Club Reps Meeting. We have to sort arrangements before announcing details, but your Club Secs will be advised ASAP. Entries for the 2nd Champs will be valid for the 3rd Champs if the owners wish, again we'll need to get the admin processes sorted.

I have read all the comments and would state that this is not the FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED and would suggest that the WCRA would look back in the minutes and see how the WCRA Ch TIPPER & LITTER together with the BESAPS (who were band) was handled, as this has set a President.

As Dave Brown says this has happened before, (incidentally I know nothing about it) why haven't the WCRA gone back to look at this? Now it has been mentioned perhaps they will. There must be someone on here who remembers surely?
