Oh no! :( My thoughts go out to the owner, poor whippie!

There must be some small comfort in knowing that he died doing what he loved and that it was quick.

I'm very sorry I must appear rude, but it's not that I've ignored your comments, it's that I haven't been on here for weeks. I only found out about this thread this morning.

It is sadly very true that on Sunday morning my gorgeous little Winx lost his footing while chasing his ball, tumbled and landed horribly on his neck while his back end carried on moving. He was already gone by the time we got to him. He'd been running after his ball in the fields in front of our house and my only consolation was that he got to chase his ball on the day he died.

Rather than repeat myself I'm going to post my quote from TWF as it's all very upsetting and I get worse the more times I think about it or type it, sorry.

I don't even know where to start.
I am completely devastated and thought I didn't have anymore tears left until I read all of these replies. The pms and texts have been lovely, thank you all so much.

I cannot believe Winx has gone, but he has. My little man with the huge personality isn't around anymore and there is a big gap right now. He was the reason I have done so much, and met so many people that I have. Without him my love of the whippet and other sighthounds would not be what it is today.

I wouldn't have met so many people and made great friendships and I wouldn't have met Slipper either so I have a lot to be grateful for because of a skinny little speed machine with the heart of a lion and the obsessiveness of a complete compulsive mental head! He was the King of Separation Anxiety and the Master of Not Eating but he got past most of that to be the most loving little whippet ever. He was my puppy manners teacher, my 150%er in everything he did and he was my first ever whippet.

There are lots of you who won't have met him, but some that have. He wasn't the biggest fan of showing in the racing and coursing classes, but he always gave the crowd a laugh with his jumping up and his refusal to stand still when he needed to, oh and he generally had at least one or two kisses for the judge lol maybe that's why he always came away with a rosette! He loved his agility time but his passion was in the chase, be that the lure, his ball, a rabbit or the odd cat (oops!) and he did plenty of all of that, and very well too.

I owe him a hell of a lot and I hope to God he enjoyed the years he spent with me and the others. He certainly had good food, loads of lovely walks and very comfy beds/settees/laps to sleep in and on.

When I can cope with it I'll get some pictures out and put up a tribute to him as he definitely deserves it. He was one in a million, and my only consolation in all of this was that he got to chase a ball the morning he died.

Thanks once again for all the lovely messages. We hope to have the internet on at home by tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest, and I can spend some time responding to all the individual messages. I'm back at work today (god that's hard) and so that's why I've been able to quickly log on. I've got a week's worth of work to catch up on so have to go now. I know quite a few of you have text me and they've all been wonderfully supportive messages. sorry I haven't replied to them, but I'm sure you understand that yesterday was just too upsetting for me. Today isn't much better, but having to come back to work has made me a bit more 'with it' and stops my mind focussing on one thing which was happening much too much yesterday.

Thank you so much to OBE for posting this on our behalf. It has certainly made it easier for me, as I couldn't have done it myself. A true friend.

I also need to say how grateful I am to Duncan (Slipper) firstly for being there with me when it happened as I couldn't have dealt with that on my own, and secondly for being there for the aftermath which hasn't been pretty I can assure you. He's been a rock through it all and that means so much.

Winx will come home next Monday, as we took him to the vets yesterday to be taken for cremation. Some people won't understand that, but I wanted him back with me. He'll be in a little box, but he'll be with me and that's the important thing.

TCx

What a terrible tragedy to happen to such a wonderful boy. He sounds like he lived life to the full and was happy til the very end of it at least but awful to go too soon.

RIP Winx

Thank you everyone for more kind messages. I keep getting pms and responding to them, then feeling guilty as all I ever do is say god it hurts so much that he's gone. Sorry everyone. I've grieved for dogs before, but when they have had a long full life and it was their time to go. This is a bit different, and I feel for anyone who has lost a dog in their prime for whtever reason, cutting short a life that should have been allowed so much more.

Tragic.

Cara,

Badger and Ruso are looking forward to coming over this afternoon to have a romp with your gang. I'm looking forward to it too, but apologising in advance for any blubbing that might ensue :b
