IMO I think they are lurchers!!!!!!!!!!! They look like a borzoi x saluki x whippet. They have been breeding them in the USA for some time now.

I meet a couple of them about 3 years ago at a gamefair in sussex, they are very pretty looking dogs not sure if they are my cup of tea but they are defo lovely looking. I have not seen any since think they are still quite rare in this country and if i can remember rightly the owner of the 2 i meet said that their is only so many in the USA.

Clare.

not met one personally but the piks ive seen look like a collie x whippet :b

Just done a very quick look on google. Seems they have been bred to be smaller, coated sighthounds by a breeder of borzois in America who wanted a second breed. She didn't want any terrier blood but needed a smaller sighthound that had some coat co it didn't get skin injuries when they were out on the trails and coursing. The smallest sighthound with a coat is an afghan which wasn't suitable so she set about creating her own. She bred borzois with 'long haired whippets' then finely tuned it with a champion whippet.

From what I can see they are healthy, robust dogs with a great temperament but with only a few founding dogs I would be a bit worried, perhaps. I think are very attractive dogs. They could in theory be lurchers if you assume that 'long haired whippets' have non-sighthound in there somewhere but probably more like long dogs. I like them - rough collie looks without collie attitude!! :)

There are two or three that go racing with the Sussex longdogs. They are just bigger than a collie small greyhound with a Borzois style coat.

they look like borzois x collie, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silken_Windhound ,hope this link helps ,

Interesting, I hadn't come across this breed before, they are very attractive.

While I was googling them I also came across Long Haired Whippets which I hadn't heard of before and which look quite similar. Long haired whippets were apparently crossed with Borzoi to create the Silkens.

There seems to be some controversy over whether long-haired whippets are true whippets with a recessive gene for long coats or whether shelties have been crossed into the breed. Does anyone know anything about them?

I think it is quite certain that at least one other breed has been mixed with whippets to create the long-haired dogs. Some whippet breeders are therefore very annoyed at these dogs (however nice they are) being called "whippets".

Just to add there are 3 silken windhounds which race with the suxxex longdogs, if that is any help.

I'm new here and have the (dubious :) ) pleasure of owning a silken windhhound puppy. Actually I shouldn't joke because I'm thrilled with her. I discovered this breed almost 10 years ago but didn't think I'd ever get to own one as there weren't any in the UK at that time. I'm a borzoi lover at heart but was looking for a smaller hound. I've owned a whippet, and although she was delightful I found her smooth coat didn't cope that well with our walks over rough terrain. She was always being stitched up at the vets! I did have a saluki pup on order but the mating didn't happen then by chance I discovered a silken puppy available and now here she is

Brilliant, so that's guaranteed then?

Milly will be along with a bigger dog for company, can't decide who yet cause not sure what the festival cavalcade entails? If there are bands then neither of the collies will want to be there

You should be ok at the dog show end as most of the noise will be at the far side of the playing feilds

:D Just read this post we seen Milly on sunday i did mention to my hubby at the time that she reminded me of a silken wind hound. She is  .I didn t realise there were any in the uk .Are they recognised as a breed in this country?

I've met the breed. I know Gill Grist from Kent who breeds them and who has pioneered them in the UK. She's in Borzois too. They are charming, but are not recognised as a breed here (I think they are in USA). I'm sure Gill would welcome any enquiries.

Just updating this old post with new pics of Milly, she's a year old now and in my very biased opinion she's absolutely fabulous. She has the temperament of the borzoi, very loving with her family but not overly demanding, aloof with strangers. She's not as 'sharp' as most borzois though which I like and definitely more trainable
