over the years we have had the normal names for the whippets ie greyhounds, raceing dogs, running dogs, but we got a new one we hadnt heard before on sunday. as we whent past a kid with his mum and dad he was about 11 he says to is dad look there 5 bellvues lol. and mum says yes there bellvues so if anyone askswhat type of dog you have from now on remeber there bellvues lol

You think you've got problems...we overheard two kids referring to our two whippets as baby deer!

I think thats quiet a commone one. we were coming back from racing one day and stoped at the services for a coffee. 2 big waggons pulled over on the slip road at teh side of teh services and one shouted out what are we shouted whippets he lafed and got out of his cab. no what animaol are they. thinking that was a bit off we said dogs. oh right he says me and my mate thought they were dear lol. tony pipes up " well there not cheep" lol. I dont know how many dear they ahve seen in cages ina peopel carrier before lol. its my falt for having 5 fawn and only 2 blacks lol

Verity was very offended one day when a little boy on the beach insisted she was a meerkat, LOL!!!

my favourite was a little boy of about 5 'look there's one of those stretchy dogs !'

Sooo true about the deer thing! I was gardening in my front garden last year & a lady visiting a neighbour came over & shouted "is that a fawn?" & i repllied "yes he's got fawn colour in him", then she persisted, "no is it a fawn? you know a baby deer?" I was flabbergasted, but also felt embarrassed for her!

Also i agree that what kiddies come out with regarding their interpretation of the whippet is hilarious! I've been asked by a boy about 8 "why is your dog so skinny?". Then a few months ago whilst at Pets @ Home, i heard a boy about 7 say to his sister "look there's one of those dogs with the thin head that you like" - priceless :D

My grand-daughter Caitlin, age 2, has a stuffed toy polecat which she insists on calling Ruby as she thinks it is just like my whippet.

Only today Gracie (14 wks) was charging around the garden like a loon and next doors little grand-daughter was beside herself as she hurtled into the house screaming ' Bambi's in the garden'!!! (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

sooty fawns.

LOL I have had a little boy insist Izzy is a reindeer! Small matter of no antlers didn't put him off, his Dad looked like he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him!

Also a velociraptor, don't ask, but I presume is a dinosaur??

 its so funny what people think! I used to consistantly have people look at bibi and say 'what is it' and I tried to come up with as many interesting answers as I could to tell them, replying 'crocodile cross' was my favourite - no-one ever looked at me and said 'oh its a beddy whippet how sweet'

We've heard a few funny comments from children but the best was from a small child to his dad ''look dad there's a kangaroo'' - another child asked us if Merlin was a werewolf and another one once asked if he was pregnant (whilst pointing at his deep chest)!

The children's comments are priceless but the most unusual we had was "look Mam that dog looks like a white mouse"
