As some of you may know I keep rabbits and guinea pigs.....

Well weve all had a lovely family day out today...lunch...shopping etc...and on our return Richard and I took the boys out for their afternoon

run. Anyway when I got back into the house decided to go out to the garage to feed some left over cabbage leaves to the rabbits....

and the boys followed like the sometimes do...eating rabbit poo as they go...and being nosy...

NOT THIS TIME THOUGH :( :( Oscar caught me so unawares when I opened the bottom hutch and grabbed little Rolo my dwarf... and Im afraid it was all over in seconds.... :'( :'(

I had to shout and scream for hubby who through a broomshank at the lads in the panic....otherwise Im not sure what would have been left.. :(

My daughter has just shouted and screamed at me for letting the dogs inside...saying they are not trained properley etc etc....I feel bad enough and weve both

had a good cry....

I know some of you may not understand how I can keep both rabbits and whippets....and have to admit the boys have changed over the years after making kills

in the wild.....but these are my pets and are special to me....

I feel so sad....guilty...and mad all at the same time.... please try not to think bad of me or my dogs...

Run free Little Rolo....I let you down and Im so sorry... :( I fully take the blame

How utterly horrible for you all :huggles: No consolation I'm sure ... but it sounds as though Rolo barely had time to know what was happening. Oscar did what whippies do ... surely no amount of training can ever guarantee against instinctive behaviour. Try not to feel too bad ... be sad but don't beat yourself up over it ... accidents happen and that's what this was, a horrible accident. RIP Rolo :(

oh janis, im so sorry :(

must have been a horrible shock for you,

it does sound like it was just a tragic accident though :(

please dont beat yourself up to much :huggles:

rest in peace little Rolo xxxx

Oh Janis :huggles:

Oscar just did what comes naturally...its not anyones fault, its just a horrible accident.

Don't blame yourself over it love xxx

What a horrible accident, but it sounds like one of those things that happens out of the blue and in an instant.

Thinking of you and your daughter :huggles:

hi just reading this , feel so sorry for you, i keep both rabbits and dogs and had a near miss today ourselves, we had the rabbits out in there run and a lurcher in the garden and totally oblivious thankgod the pup was of the rabbits that had escaped out of there run and was bounding around behind her, i calmly called her in and then put the rabbits away, these things unfortuantely happen and today i came off luckier than you. feel for you though as i too would of felt awful.

but its truly just an accident, you nor the dogs are to blame , so please dont take this out on u or them.

:(

Thanks all...I appreciate it

and Jml Ive had narrow escapes too...I should have known better...

hope my daughter returns in a better mood..at the moment shes blaming me.. :(

Oh Janis, I do feel for you. Please try not to blame yourself, it was a tragic accident, but you can't beat yourself up :huggles: We love whippets for what they are, but sometimes what they are can hurt too. It's not your fault, and will have been so quick that Rolo really wouldn't have known anything about it.

Take Care

TCx

Janis you know my thoughts.... :huggles:

:( oh janis im so sorry to read of the horrible events of your day :(

dont blame yourself as it was as accident, we all know how much you love ALL your pets

RIP little Rolo

So sorry to read of your loss Janis, I own small pets too and know how much I love them and how attached you can get. Its not your fault what happened to Rolo, it was just a horrible accident, I hope you aren't going to be too hard on yourself. RIP Rolo :huggles:

Oh Janis, im so sorry, but dont blame yourself, unfortunatly these things happen.........xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

:) Thanks guys its appreciated...feel a bit better today....and Rolo is soon to be buried in our garden along with all the rest of the little furries

that have passed one.

Think the dogs know theyve done something bad...and are still in disgrace ...

no creature on earth can match a dog when it comes to a guilty expression, its those eyes, isnt it. glad youre feeling better, and hope your daughter is too. :huggles:

Poor you Janis - I can understand how you feel :( as we all know how much you love your pets. Try not to feel guilty - tragic accidents do happen however much we try to prevent them. I know it isn't much consolation to you at the moment, but Rolo had a good life with you, and it happened so quickly he wouldn't have known about it.

RIP little Rolo  , and hugs to you and your daughter. :huggles: :huggles:

I,m so sorry Janis :( :( .................it was a tragic accident,no one to blame hun :huggles: :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

Awww :( Really feel for you... I had a similar experience last summer. I fed a stray lurcher which had followed me back to the house, it lives nearby with a man who usually loves and cares well for his dog, but on occasions would be very drunk and the dog would come and scrounge for some food.

On this particular occasion he hung round instead of trotting off home- and was very interested to see me put out the childrens guinea pigs into their run :(

I thought they were safe in their run in our enclosed back garden. I had a hospital appointment and left. When I got back the dog had gone, our back gate was chewed and hanging off, and the guinea pigs were dead in the garden :'( I felt 100% responsible, and broke my heart over my poor little piggies.

So very sorry for your horrible shock and the loss of your rabbit- they are no less loved for being small, are they? Hope you feel better soon :huggles:

Aww you must have felt terrible too....so sorry... :( think it must have been worse when it wasnt even your dog... :(

Aww Janis,,just seen this,,,Dogs will be dogs,,My Robbie when he was a yearling,,found Rachle's hamster on the stairs,,,Rachel was playing with badger,,but never shut the cage door,,,well I let the dogs in Robbie ran up the stairs,,the rest came into the livingroom,,,I did hear a river dance noise,,so after a few mins,,went to see what Robbie was doing,,he had found the hamster,,and was playing with it,,well clawing it,,,Badger died on my lap about 10 mins later,,,Not a bit of wet on him,,Robbie just clawed him to death.

I felt terrible,,told Rachel Badger had died through the night,,,to this day she thinks that,,she would have hated Robbie,,,but I should have went sooner to see why Robbie was river dancing on the landing.

We live and learn,,no more hamsters now,,she wants a rabbit,,not a chance,,as I know if the dogs could get near it,it would be gone

RIP little one hpe your feeling abit better today? what an unfortunate accident :huggles:
