    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

Thanks for this. It's very interesting (and heartening) to hear that this is common after racing/running. Thank you for pointing this out to me.

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

Ok update on this... rather cowardly and selfishly I have not ventured down the tripe route yet (although I will keep it as an option up my sleeve). Instead I started adding fibre to his food - you can buy it as a supplement for dogs. It has helped enormously - which surprised me as his food...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Update a few weeks on.... haven't had a single problem with night or early waking since abandoning the crate. No toileting in house either. He waits until we get up and let him out - sometimes he is so sleepy he doesn't even want to go out!  Calmer, happier dog all round. Best of all we are...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

OK thank you very much excuseme that's really helpful.  I will look into it.  I think I would definitely prefer the less smelly frozen stuff defrosted and eaten outside!   I might give it a try.  I think our local pet shop sells it in the freezer...  It's very helpful to have a quantity...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

I should add that finding something my puppy likes is not in any way a problem - to him, EVERYTHING is delicious - cardboard, wood, grass, bark, plants etc.  He would eat anything you put in front of him.  Except, rather curiously, the tops of carrots!!  Sadly this means he has to be on the lead...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

okaaaaayyyy.  I am rather hesitant.  I don't even eat red meat myself and am very squeamish!  But I'd rather feed one item raw and continue with kibble than go fully down the raw route.  I looked up green tripe - had no idea what it was.... Yuck!  And that's without even smelling it.  How do you...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

He is a golden retriever x miniature poodle...  Thank you for the tip Wotho.  We tried that but sadly to no avail... Strong probiotics seem to be helping a little bit (ProKolin+).  Thankfully he is also getting better at holding it and since removing the crate (controversial!) he has not had an...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Update - four full nights sleep!  No damage to kitchen/dining room.  Calmer dog.

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Eeek well it is good to have the warning about the chewing... I thought we had got off lightly somehow!  His baby teeth are all falling out now so I assume the adult teeth are rapidly on the way...  I do hope our kitchen is chew-proof enough for him to be out at night when that starts...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Now it's THREE FULL NIGHTS sleep!  Can't believe our luck!  Interesting Kate75 that you had exactly the same situation and I'm so grateful that you posted, thank you... I am really glad to hear that the spaying went OK with the crate at the vet - I will look out for the timings of the op at our...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Ok I thought I'd update you lovely folks on POSITIVE PROGRESS!! We have had not one but TWO full nights sleep with no interruptions!  The first time since late January when we got out puppy!  What a difference.... Thanks to the encouragement here we bit the bullet out of desperation and just...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

Ok so update on tummy troubles... puppy had a couple of "normal" days at beginning of antibiotic treatment but now nearly a week in and we are back to the old pattern of "normal" first thing in the morning and then diarrhoea the rest of the time especially on walks. I despair!  Hiwever nights...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

gysysmum2 you are such a support. Thank you so much for following my long and boring saga of newbie-puppy-ownership and providing your thoughts. It has genuinely helped me a great deal. As I wrote on other thread, 2 nights with no poo - hallelujah! Still waking though - probably habit...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

Good point gypsysmum2. And Kate75 that is really, really heartening to hear, thank you. It kind of makes me feel like a failure to be considering giving up on the crate! But he is a good boy. We have given up on it during the day and it seems to be (fingers crossed) going fine. I just went...

    (early) dawn barking/waking in crate

The alarm thing has been a nightmare! Sorry to report this. We set alarm for 5 and woke him and took him out about 3 times. Was satisfying to wake HIM and that is the idea, to break the barking-for-us-to-come habit. Then the next day we went to 5.15. That worked. Once. Then the next day...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

PSheriff thank you so much for your thoughts. We had a stool test done and Giardia did not show up..... However we changed vets and the new vet did a blood test, primarily checking for Pancreatic Insufficiency. He said the results did not point to that. However because there were abnormal...

    Puppy diarrhoea constantly

Thanks gypsysmum2. I only use his kibble as treats and take out of his daily food allowance. Arg! New vet has immediately sent bloods off for pancreatic insufficiency test so you may have been on to something... I'll let you know. Thanks again!

    Long ongoing gastro issues

Hi there did you get anywhere with this? Our 5 month puppy has similar issues and I just found this thread... He has had diarrhoea since we got him (except first thing in the morning), clear on vet stool test, skinny, ravenously hungry and coprophagia. I was wondering if you had any...

    Neutering - what age?

Great advice gypsysmum2. As ever! Thank you so much... Good suggestion re older spayed bitch, makes total sense. Will watch for other male dogs. Thank you.

    Neutering - what age?

ok this is very helpful, thank you. So here is a question. If your dog (male) is in 'randy adolescent' mode - what do you do/how do you handle it when he is trying to hump every female in the park (we live near very heavily dog-populated park!!)?
