How to judge end of life

My thoughts are with you at this unhappy time. Rest assured that you have done your very best for your dog.

When can my 4 month old Kelpie be outside safely?

Mine go out straight away, but I pick the places carefully and keep away from other people and dogs. Your call, but if he's already been running around on a working farm then his immune system should be up and running well. Just my opinion and it's your decision that counts.

Would anyone be interested in trying out a platform for matching dogs with homes and give me some feedback?

I think too much backstory can be counterproductive (several of my careers involved finding fault to a forensic level!) as people tend to go with emotion - awwww - but choosing a dog should be about common sense - what they can offer the dog, what would be a deal-breaker (for instance I couldn't...

How to judge end of life

I agree. Whatever makes your dog happy. One of mine chose to come off raw food and so I cooked her meat for her for her last few months.

    Self checkouts at supermarkets.

That's rather nice - so many people are so socially isolated that they never get to have a friendly chat with anyone. Me - I like to get the transaction through swiftly but am always pleasant to the cashier. If they want a little exchange of chat I'm happy to co-operate.

    Self checkouts at supermarkets.

I never use them. If that's all that is available, I shop elsewhere. Not only for the employment matter but because it's more convenient for me.

    Puppy sold

All the best for a speedy resolution. Sometimes people make mistakes. Sometimes doing the right thing costs us money we will never get back, and we just have to go with that. The most important thing is to do your best for the puppy. A better new owner may be just around the corner.

How to judge end of life

FWIW I think you made the right decision. A lovely young vet from long ago said to me "It's not a living-longer competition - it's about quality of life". It hurts like hell, but you know that you did what was best for your dog.

    Help with Westie

Great advice from others. I would just add that next time you are at the vet, get her hearing and eyesight checked, as lack of either might contribute to the 'startle'.

You know you'll never forget your dog when...

I have a horse-owning friend who frequently tells her daughter to "stand!". (For the non-horsey, this means keep still will you!).

How to judge end of life

I've been there many times and it doesn't get easier, but you have my (all of our) support and empathy. You sound a very caring owner who will certainly put your dog first.

    Online study: Attitudes towards Pugs.

Thank you for including those of us who like pugs but don't have/aren't getting one. I shall proceed to the survey!

How disappointing - I really like pugs.

    Brand new yorkie

    Hello and welcome.

18 month old cavachon scared and jittery - help!

I have for decades kept a specific type of dog that is naturally underconfident. We do well together. I don't ever force them into contact with other dogs, people or situations they may find difficult, and I "listen" to what they are telling me (the more we "listen" the more they "talk") so if...

    Coton De Tulear

I can't comment on the veterinary side, but I am so sorry for your loss. It's a hugely difficult time no matter how often we go through it, and I hope you are getting the support you need.

What breed - ideas welcomed please

Rescues vary greatly in how well they match prospective owners and dogs. As a generalisation, I have always found Dogs Trust to be pretty good, but isn't to say other Rescues aren't good. A lot of it depends on the person you see on the day. Any organisations that rely heavily on volunteers can...
