Yes. It certainly saves my sanity. With a livery stable next door flies come in as soon as I open a door or window. I don't want to breathe in fly sprays so I use fly papers. The downside is that they do look horrible.
Cats are prone to kidney problems being such fussy drinkers so wet food is probably better for them.
Mine (also "secondhand") is fed on Whiskers pouches ( yes I know!). He also gets a handful of cat kibble to snack on and the occasional pilchard or sardine. He's the picture of health so I'm...
I am sooooooo tired!
I had my first day today and made lots and lots of new friends! It was fun as all my new friends gave me my favourite treats.
I even went in something called a "lift". It was weird. We went into this tiny room and the door closed. I got a funny feeling in my tummy but it...
We have one for Harri - we have hard cold floors and I was finding a puddle of condensation under his bed every morning. We made him a futon style base which solved the problem immediately.
Yes - the fear is that the dogs might transfer salmonella or e-coli bugs etc to vulnerable people with low resistance. I doubt any meaningful research has been done on the actual risk though.
At the moment I'd say NHS sandwiches seem to pose a considerable risk!
Sounds like it's going well.
I've had to stop raw feeding Harri unfortunately. I'm far from convinced that it would be an infection risk but as a therapy dog he isn't permitted raw.
I used that line the other day - a jack russell type came charging towards us. I was working on dog neutrality with Harri and didn't want to allow an interaction. On lead he needs my permission to meet and greet so I put myself between them. Usual ineffectual owner strolls up bleating that...
Harri will only eat kibble from a ball.... if it's in his dish he won't touch it.
He is a funny eater - some days he'll eat virtually nothing and the next he'll eat for Wales and still be trying to cadge more. He also sometimes needs to be reminded he's hungry. A few pieces of cheese on top of...
Harri is allowed to lick out the empty yoghurt pots. I only buy the plain organic Greek style and may leave a little more than is strictly necessary in the pot!
Harri gets a mix and two meals a day. He doesn't have breakfast as he isn't interested in food until he's had his morning walk.
Raw chicken wings for lunch (although we are going to have to stop that shortly unfortunately). He gets a premium wet food ( Butternut Box) for his main meal and a...
Yes but they'll be charging the owners 20% or more +VAT. They don't want you contacting the owner direct until you've paid the full amount as you'll probably find the owner would do you a better price than via the agency. Use the agencies to find somewhere you like by all means and then do a...
If you book direct with the owner then you should always be able to get the full address from them.
It's only the big OTAs like AirBnB, TripAdvisor, HomeAway, Booking. com and the agencies that are secretive as they need to get their hundreds of pounds in booking fees off you first! And I do...
Look up how to teach a solo pup "bite inhibition". One with siblings quickly learns to modify their bite so it doesn't hurt (as much!!) A single pup doesn't learn this from his littermates and has to rely solely on Mum teaching him. All pups are mouthy but one that hasn't learned to inhibit...
"Jasper might chase a squirrel up a tree if he's in the mood, and if he sees a deer or rabbit, he will freeze and stare intently. If off lead he will silently disappear after it in the blink of an eye, and if on lead he can be led on after a while, though it's a bit like walking a neutron bomb...
I was really worried about Mum today.
She was playing with me in the garden with my ball (one of my favourite games) when she tripped over a garden chair and the chair and the table fell on her! She was lying on the floor shaking and I didn't know what to do....
I ran straight back to her...
Harri plays very rough at times with dogs he knows well. Full on bitey face and wrestling, often bowling each other over and grabbing. Often with growley noises. It's just play though - both parties enjoy it immensely until they have to stop for a breather, at which point they'll trot off...
