Harri's first collar was a light webbing one which we put on him the first day he came home and before we even considered teaching him to walk on a lead. He didn't even really notice he had it on. Once he grew a bit it was replaced by a leather one. I've never felt the need for a chain collar...
Harri loves a squeaky toy. I can't see that it's done him any harm. He can certainly differentiate between the squeak of his toys and the squeak of a human when he plays too rough. In the latter case he stops immediately!
The only downside for us is that terrier jaws can break a squeaker...
I've given up walking into Bath along the shared path by the Avon. Quite frankly it is far too dangerous with entitled cyclists speeding through. It's only a matter of time before a child or other pedestrian is badly hurt.
It's always worth asking Annette. I say we will take 2 of any size and breed, no questions asked but in practice it is much more flexible. I'd struggle to accommodate 4 Great Danes for example but I have taken 5 whippets!
I had a King Charles - they are really hard to get nowadays, I think only around 100 puppies a year are born. He was my first childhood dog and a proper little horror. He was OK with the family but we had to warn everyone else not to touch him!
He was re-homed with my grandparents when we...
Harri won't eat any type of fruit. Veggies are more popular, but not much! He gets peas and carrots in his dinner every day and if he's hungry he'll wolf the lot. If not then he'll go through and carefully spit out the carrots on to the floor.
4 days is no time at all.
Do you have any outside space they can use? If the dobermann is feeling up to playing rough in the house I'd be upping his walks. Obviously you won't be able to let him off lead unless it's a confined area.
When Harri had anorexia from a drug reaction, the only way I could get him to eat was hand feeding from what he thought was my plate. I could normally get a few pieces of roast chicken down him that way. He'd also take a few pieces of sausage. Nowhere near enough but it was better than nothing...
I use a 10m webbing one. They are very cheap on Amazon and very light. I'd avoid the one by Clix. When it gets wet (and it will) it gets very very heavy. The webbing one is fine even when wet. You'll need gloves too - I use a pair of lightweight gardening gloves. And yes, always with a harness...
I have a terrier rather than your breed but I do feel your pain. Harri is totally deaf when it comes to recall if he sees something more interesting ( ie another dog, deer, rabbits, rats etc etc). He's on a long line now and will be for quite a while yet. He's a lot better with other dogs than...
