we have intermittent lameness with our spaniel- we know that it's luxating patella and came on after an injury (involving hurtling down a slope after a squirrel ). I think you're right about the type of exercise bringing it on: this happens when the crops in the fields get above about 18...
A geneticist friend says it isn't humans but domestic dogs are the most successful species on earth. They get another species (us) to feed them and raise their children. Usually we offer shelter and security. And we thank them and adore them for letting us do it.
As I do every day of my life.:p
It's a great age to adopt! And the ones I've known have been pretty laid-back. Of course the change in circumstances will be a bit of a shock to a young dog as it is to a puppy. But you're well clued up with the big dog/ big puppy world so I'm sure you could offer a really great home. Such a...
They're complicated, huh? This seems to be anxiety based so I agree don't push it. Our elderly corgi x has this last year developed a phobia about walking over to Home Farm where lots of other dogs bark as you pass. Basically he's up for it with me, my OH and our spaniel. But if it's not all...
Maybe a bit of a tummy upset?- at this age his system will be far from settled and no! No telling off. Basically a puppy is house-trained only when its mature enough to have control. As you mop up endlessly you repeat the mantra 'He's doing his bestest..' ;)
The only yoghurt mine won't eat is rhubarb. I let then have any plain yoghurt I have in the fridge - a tablespoon on their dinners. They will also steal any yoghurt carton from the fridge door... EXCEPT rhubarb. The corgi knows that if you either bite or stand on an unopened Yeo Valley...
No you're not a worrier! we're all bothered when a dog won't eat. If the vet says there's nothing wrong, that's fine. But since she's a young dog and still maturing in some ways, I'd carry on tempting her with whatever she'll eat- a variety can be good because then you have the best chance of...
We're on the Welsh Border...it's the village fete today.:( Anyone in Cheshire or even the Peak District see a large tent go by this afternoon- probably containing contestants for the fun dog show - please contact us.
I do think working dogs make a decision about walks (which are work opportunities) based on game theory. If we've been that way this morning my spaniels will all do a bit of passive resistance faced with my attempt to go the same route in the afternoon. In fact they give you a look which says...
It just shows though that with raw feeding the natural dog system can cope- though not the human nose- whereas 4 days worth of dry kibble might have meant a trip to the vet!
Poo- totally unacceptable...sniffing and wee messages, well don't mind because they actually get the corgi x to do a few answering-back puddles last thing at night- then we can all go in to bye-byes. ;)
Don't panic- many puppies have tummy upsets. It took while for our latest boy to settle on his current diet. Completely agree that so long as they're drinking it's ok. When my boy was having problems I fed white fish and mashed potato. Always did the trick. :)
