I won't answer re how long Joanna because every dog is different and it can't help. I do know that dogs live in the moment and to them a month or six months is the same...so take good care of both of you.
So very very sorry. We lost our much-loved boy in the same way. There are no words to describe how cruel this news is. All I can say is the dog never knows- and you have to let each day be as good as you can make it because to her it will be the same as every other wonderful day she's had with you.
A lot depends on what you want from your dog food, I think. Dry kibble has many negatives - the worst being it coats your dogs teeth with starch which makes them more prone to decay. All this about how it's crunchy and keeps their teeth clean is pet-food makers hype. Soaked kibble is fine fresh...
My cocker puppy was also bitten in the face a couple of years ago- by a little Staffie bitch that was on a lead. I guess it happens so often because puppies don't have the experience to read body language (and probably like mine are lacking in manners.) No real harm done at least.;) And your...
Also a rescue can only do so much. There are no guarantees to any dog's behaviour (rescue or bought as a puppy from even the best breeder) towards children in the home apart from total adult vigilance. I've had a friend's child nipped by my own very laid-back dog in our home. My fault- I took my...
It's one of the basic usable theorems of Behavioural Science that negative inputs (pain being the most severe) are a cause of anxiety. The idea that pain stimulus can be used to combat anxiety in a dog is therefore counter-intuitive. But handily enough for these 'trainers' the dog can't report...
Can I add it's not a simple sun/vitamin d process for dogs in the same way as people. Your dog will never get enough of this Vitamin through the skin- it has to be through diet. The best source I've found is salmon oil. BUT wild salmon is much better and of course this gives another moral...
Always a pen IMO. (But I've never used crates and don't like them.) He can move around more which a puppy REALLY needs to do and if you can gradually accustom him to it you can leave him with toys and stuff you don't mind being chewed/destroyed. But I've never used a pen either- preferring to...
I'm sure you won't regret adding Toby to your life- sounds like you thought about it long and hard before you made your decision and really wish everyone was so responsible. ;)
We rescued a highly reactive lurcher who at 7 y.o would run up to any dog and bark- often circling like an Apache. On the lead he was worse and turned into a lunging pitbull. My OH calculated that during the first few weeks we'd be abused by other owners about every 3.5 minutes. (He's a...
I'd try to find a brand and combo they enjoy. Whatever it is. For most dogs on any particular day, food is their absolute top pleasure in life. I can't provide a herd of cows for the corgi x to harass  nor pheasants on tap for the spaniel to put up :(- but I can give then a tasty breakfast...
