    Barks at everything

My mates dog was a barker out in the garden. He used to drive everyone nuts, any noise from next door and that was it. I told him to cut a hole in the fence low down and put mesh over the hole. It was like magic, the dog stopped barking. It wasn't magic, the dog was only barking because he couldn't...

Suitable family dog for first time owners

Have a look at Border Terriers, they are great dogs. Known for being people friendly, but also children friendly. They are intelligent and good to train. My borders were all working terriers but that didn't stop the kids dressing them up in skirts and tee shirts. I would often come home from...

    Nail clipping.

Just like @lurcherman I've always done my own dogs nails if they've needed doing. Like he says it's just something I just get on with and the dogs just stand there.

    Crates

I don't like them if I'm honest, a cage is a cage. I do see the benefits of having a safe zone for a dog to chill out in,but to shut a dog in one is another ball game unless you are transporting the dog. I've managed perfectly well all these years without one. So I'm not a fan.

    What’s your favourite food/ dinner

I love all different kinds of food but the one that makes me go ... yes ... Egg chips and beans. Don't ask me why, probably something to do with my childhood. But they've got to be homemade chips.

    Pet insurance

Unfortunately I think a lot of vets fleece the insurance system, not all of them though. Bit like these lawyers that chase the car crash people.

    Pet insurance

I don't have insurance, but have a dog fund for emergencies. If you are going down the insurance route,if you think your dog may have health problems later on,get the best you can afford.

    Best wet food?

Not sure I understand, you've found a dry food your dog loves. What reason do you want to change from a food your dog loves when it's a fussy eater.

    New Puppy, please help

I'm like @lurcherman .... old skool when it comes to training dogs. Only dogs I've ever had have been lurchers & Terriers. I don't even think about it when I get a pup really, but it starts from day one when I get a pup. I do use the word no which covers different situations,my dogs don't seem to...

How far I will go for something I love. It's a lot further than it would be for 95% of people.

    Sleep/crate training

All mine have slept at the side of me in a puppy pen. Easy for a reassuring hand to settle them down. Besides it a great way of making that unbreakable bond between you and your pup.

Should I give my elderly dog supplements?

Mine is 18 now, all her life she was fed like a olympic athlete and exercised like one too. Now she can eat what ever she likes. Don't get me wrong she still gets good food. She never gets the same food two days on the trot. So at 18 she still trots up with her tail wagging ...what am I having...
