He’s been here over a month. At what point is enough time to start training him?

Its yer choice vs leave it vs wait vs stay

Can anyone provide clarity on how to use these different things? I want to work on Freddie’s impulse control so I’ve been doing a lot of it’s yer choice work with him which he loves and he’s brilliant at. But there’s a part of me that feels like the longer I wait to reward after the look away...

    Teeth cleaning

So I'm continuing to try to train Freddie to accept tooth brushing just because I'm not confident the bully sticks will totally work 100% and I may have found a hack and I'm curious to hear your thoughts. see years ago I had a career as a dental lab tech making dentures and crowns etc for...

    Sanity check re play

So. I think we’re on the right track but just checking. Freddie loves to play. But he has adhd I swear. About once a day he will become obsessed with a single toy and play like mad with it. For about fifteen seconds. And then like a light switch turning off he completely drops it and ignores...

    Teeth cleaning

Just bought Freddie his first proper 100% beef pizzle bully stick. I put it in his holder so he doesn’t swallow the blessed thing and he’s really going to town gnawing on this. I really like this compared to the fish skin and raw hides I’ve given him because I can tell he’s actually audibly...

Anxiety / reactivity - advice please!

I would agree. You stepping between him and the other dog and making the dog go around proves to him that he can trust you and you will protect him.

    Seizures

Yeah its hard because one of my best ways to decompress is to go out. so we went to the circus tonight and cheered and laughed till we cried and forgot about all our trials... and then came home to a plaintively wailing dog that lost his very last marble as soon as we walked through the door...

    Seizures

Out of work for a week with this sprained ankle. It’s just hard to decompress in a house that isn’t your own you know?

    Seizures

Thanks. It’s just been a lot lately. May 2 our house burned down and Bax died and Joel almost got killed. Two weeks later I got Covid. Two weeks after that I sprained my ankle. Two days after that Freddie has a seizure. It’s just starting to feel a little personal you know!?!? lol

    Seizures

Just got off the phone with the vet. He’s not worried. According to him we don’t always have a clear reason why dogs seize and given that Freddie is a new rescue we don’t know what his triggers are yet. He’s recommending a log and trying to track it. He didn’t think it was the seresto but given...

    Seizures

Freddie just had a huge seizure. Vet office opens in literally two min so I’m gonna call in a second. Things he’s injested since the vet. Had his seresto flea collar properly fitted. Bordetella vaccine Apoquel Propelactin The only thing that Google is stelling me can cause seizures is the...

    Seperation anxiety

Welp. Not my brightest moment. Attempted to generalize to the kitchen because he was doing so well and it immediately became obvious that this would be hard for him. Treats and kibble are kept in the kitchen. It also is dinner time. Something I didn’t realize because he wasn’t asking. Hmmmmm why...

    Seperation anxiety

Oh yeah. This is a good boi. I always knew it. But now it’s confirmed. Been sporadically flitting maybe a dozen times. (Walking from the living room to the bedroom to pick up a single piece of laundry. Put it in the basket. Then come back to the couch). Initially he started wandering around the...

    Seperation anxiety

Excellent progress on the SA! discovered that he’s 100% okay with me leaving the room for minutes at a time if he’s busy with a peanut butter kong. I don’t mind having him as a little shadow around the house but I feel so much better about his mental health that he can settle with a chew or a...

    First vet visit with Freddie

Just got back from Freddie’s first vet visit and figured I’d update y’all. A. Definitly will need a dental soon. He’s in danger of losing a tooth. Nothing scheduled and I’ll hit the fish skin chews and tooth brush training harder to see if I can prevent it. B. Definitly hyper mobile but not...

    Seperation anxiety

Always jumps up to follow. I accidentally did some flitting before I knew that was a thing a week ago when I was unpacking boxes and he eventually settled on his mat and just watched me walk in and out. I’m tempted to do it some more but again I don’t want to stress the little guy out when he’s...

    Seperation anxiety

I did some research on flitting and the article recommended not trying it with new dogs as it’s to stressful. Am I jumping the gun by trying to address Freddie’s SA if he’s only been here three weeks?

    Seperation anxiety

No. We’re renting while the house rebuilds and while there is a back garden the fence isn’t very good and no doggy door.

    Seperation anxiety

Is there a quick resources for seperation anxiety? I know y’all are usually quick with a link and I’m sure this topic has been posted on before but I can’t find anything. As soon as we step out the door Freddie starts barking and all evidence points to him continuously barking for the duration...
