    I have a dilemma...

late to the party but that owner infuriates me. I have NEVER been blessed with a yard for my dogs. I have frequently had apartments on higher floors. the dog gets you up at 3am for a wee? you get dressed and haul their ass downstairs for a wee. you take them on long walks so they can feel grass...

    Teeth cleaning

Would I be wrong to try puppy teething toys with him? he has stronger jaws than a puppy but with his teeth being so ouchy it might help to chew on something softer? just spitballing ideas.

    Teeth cleaning

Looking for tips to clean Freddies teeth. rescue said they were a "stage 2 or 3 and will probably need a dental soon". they obviously have a ton of gunk on them. things I've tried: Hills sensitive stomach kibble not a factor. the pieces are so tiny he just swallows them whole no problem. no...

an hour later and i feel much better about this. he's eaten dinner (voraciously) drunk water, pooed (normal. for him) and peed a ton. affect remains his bright cheery self and no tenderness or discomfort around the belly.

Emergency help with raw feeding please

So freddie has bad teeth. i knew that. i wanted to raw feed him some chicken to help naturally brush his teeth. so I normally gave bax a full chicken thigh when he was raw fed but I'm only supplementing freddie so I gave him a tiny chicken drumstick (think like chicken wings) welp. he gummed...

Soft poos from a new rescue

So most of you know Freddie's story from the other posts I've made about him. new rescue. got him Monday may 20. so almost exactly a week ago. when I got him the rescue recommended switching him immediately to Hill Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Chicken Flavor. I do not know what they were...

    Puzzle toy requests

    Puzzle toy requests

ooo yeah baxters favorite toy was when I wrapped a billion tiny chip fragments in papertowel and stuffed a papertowel tube full of them. unfortunately I don't have any papertowel tubes yet but I do have some boxes. ill have to feed him his dinner that way. should I be concerned about...

    Puzzle toy requests

So as many of you know I lost everything in the house fire including Baxter's coveted toy collection. I'm looking to restock from scratch and I'm looking for tips. I have always been a HUGE advocate for play time even with well behaved dogs and especially puzzle toys. Baxter LOVED his Outward...

Anxiety / reactivity - advice please!

Dittoing everyone else but i've also had good luck with increasing the value of the treat in higher stress situations. while peanutbutter cookies and milk bones may cut it at the quiet home if you are out walking the dog that's the best time to pull out the potato chips and fresh cooked hot dog...

    Martingale vs choke?

thank you. i decided to cancel the class. at the very least id like to work on his barrier frustration before he's locked in a room with a dozen other dogs. thankfully there's a million other dogs in the neighborhood we walk past every day so we can get lots of practice. i realized that "I"...

    Martingale vs choke?

just saw this. @Hemlock when would you say he's ready for class? it doesn't start for a month so I thought that would be plenty of time for him to adjust. i wanted to get in because the classes fill up quick.

Sad news and a request for help with door dashing and training a new rescue

yeah i think i was worried because I put SO much work into bax we just had this incredible bond. he was a real person to us with complex needs and desires. when solomon (now renamed freddie) came he was so easy we didn't feel like we would be able to bond with him. he felt more like a piece of...

    Martingale vs choke?

I’ll have to check when we get home. I will definitly say that I didn’t use a flat collar with Bax because I didn’t want him to back out so knowing that it’s supposed to prevent that is a relief.

Sad news and a request for help with door dashing and training a new rescue

Turns out I spoke too soon. Solomon was playing with Papa and just unleashed a FLURRY of humping and (admittedly very gentle) open-mouthed mouthing behaviors. I'm sitting with my feet tucked up on the chair and he's literally staring at me whining and humping the air. I'm still caulking it up...

    Martingale vs choke?

Hey so I am firmly in the positive dog training no choke/prong/e collars camp. however. the rescue that I got solomon from insisted that I take him home on a martingale which is a collar type I freely confess i'd never seen before. when I went to sign him up for dog training the training...
