That's why they shouldn't be recommended to most people. A properly used prong is going to be put on a trained dog who does not pull consistently. It's going to be used to refine a behaviour the dog already knows. A dog won't put consistent pressure on a prong collar like they do with other...
Just dropping in to confirm prong collars, when used properly, are self correcting tools and yanking is incorrect use and is going to hurt the dog...Also no puppy is appropriate for a prong ever. The prongs don't HURT (they cause discomfort but not pain) as long as the collar is used properly...
Thank you! Dobermans aren't actually my breed of choice, but my mum loves the breed and I ended up taking over the training for our 3 when my mum started struggling to handle them (she has an array of health issues) when I lived at home. I'm not sure if Dobermans suit me and my lifestyle or if...
Thank you terry, very informative.
Anybody know the temperament differences of the Akita Inu and American Akita? I'm having some trouble finding much info when I'm comparing the breeds!
From what I've read so far it seems the American Akitas have a similar temperament to a really alert EU...
Instead of creating multiple threads for photos, I'll just post them all here. I hope it's OK to keep bumping this thread with new pics. :) We didn't actually get too much snow, but Kay loves any snow so of course she enjoyed the little we got. ;)

My concern was more the temperament. Having owned and boarded a thousand of them, I can also confirm GSD's never stop shedding  I used to make life sized puppies out of the fur.
Congrats on the lizard OP :) my first pet was a snake :D
Somebody posted this on another website and I thought it was a really interesting article to read in regards to spaying and neutering.
Gives a bit of a different perspective on the whole spay/neither topic.

Haven't seen any akitas in posts but is anyone experienced with the breed? My OH and I are looking into different breeds at the minute as we're planning to add a dog to the household next year after we've moved.
I have a rough idea of what the breed is like but am hoping to get someone with...
Staffies typically have a high prey drive due to their terrier lineage and so are more commonly affected by dog-directed aggression, and animal aggression, or reactivity when compared with human aggression. They were bred to be incredibly people oriented.
Aggression in dogs is often driven by...
The majority of standard pet breeders will start rehomong their puppies as soon as they can at 8 weeks, while some will hold onto the puppy until 12 weeks to provide the training and socialisation as well as to complete the initial course of vaccinations.
I always thought it was illegal to...
I got the julius k9 harness for Kay. It's really comfortable and a great fit, you can get them for small dogs too. I've never found a better lead than the multi clip police style leads.
I've taken Kay to a dock dog club before and she had a blast! They are great groups if your dog enjoys that type of thing. Kay was highly reactive to dogs and strangers at the time and even she was able to calm down and focus completely on the fact it was almost her go to swim. I imagine she'd...
Really you're waiting for joints to fuse, so when the dog has finished maturing. Large breeds tend to be "done growing" at 18 months and smaller dogs between 12 months and 18 months I think.
When you desex, you interfere with hormones that are responsible for growth, both physical and mental...
