I paid more attention to specifics today. She does really well (no pulling) until we reach the road. She does listen to me but doesn't know heel. She knows Sit and wait is a bit more iffy. She does show an obvious reluctance when its not something she wants to do (like hiding under the table...
I am both relieved and dismayed. Walking the two is so much easier but figuring out how to train Vi and not "train" something in Marshmallow was more than I could figure out.
We actually did a vet visit yesterday and Vi was scared enough to behave . . . and throw up in the car on the way home...
We joke that Maggie (dachshund/ black mouth cur) pulls with all 100 pounds she doesn't have (she is 35 pounds) but walking her isn't pleasant. I have been trying the stopping when she pulls and she relaxes the tension for maybe two steps. I have tried turning around and going the other way but...
Yay! I made enough posts and comments that I could do a link. So here she is taking treats. I know I said "sit" too much. Also, if I am sitting while treating (which I was in the video), she is less shark-breeching-the-water-to-catch-a-bird. And sometimes she drags her teeth down the length of...
I think plastic hard beds are a UK thing and the shipping costs 5x the price of the dog bed. I may just look at plastic storage containers or such.
The Orvis beds look wonderful but the price (especially with 3 dogs) is way too high for us.
Ohhhh, we were traveling home from family (200 mile trip) and took a wrong turn that took us MILES out of our way. At one point we were traveling a back, back road and Marshmallow started trembling and whimpering - we have NEVER seen her act like that. When we were able to get onto a bigger...
Is there anything that we can do to keep the dogs/puppy from shredding them when left alone? I hate to take their beds away but I also hate to keep buying them.
I can sew, not well but it gets the job done. Would a denim cover (with zipper) be more resilient and worth the effort? The only...
My sister had a dog that was afraid of the color black. I am really not sure how they knew that.
My Maggie runs when I say the phrase "trim your nails." We actually take her to the vet for that.
My son and I are more cat people but our dogs . . . . We lost our home last year in a house fire, our cats lost their lives but our dogs helped keep up sane through the whole thing. Dachshund Maggie wore the face of worry that we all felt, Marshmallow (who is the most joyful dog) reminded us to...
Thank you for the book recommendations, I got it in a four pack with Calm and one about leash training. The portion I read about leash training worked WONDERS already on stopping my 7 year old dachshund from pulling with ALL her might. It made the walk so much more pleasant.
She can do "sit" and can ring the bell to go outside but I am trying to train her; I am mainly focusing on leash training and "Leave It." Yesterday, we tried to do "lay down" but that was part of what got her so frustrated. And "Baby Shark"like.
There is just so much to learn. For both of us...
I searched for an answer but the key words are so common that I couldn't find anything. Trying to train Violet, I almost feel I should have cut resistant gloves. The more aggravated she is that I am not giving her the treat immediately the more aggressively she takes it. Thankfully she does...
Hi, I am Christi. I have my two kids and husband living with me. We also have 3 cats and two dogs plus a quarentine puppy.
The oldest dog, Maggie is dachshund/ black mouth cur and she is 7 years old. She has early arthritis because her previous home situation was not ideal but she is living...
