    Slow heart rate - experiences?

Wow! Big difference! When cash was at the vets in Dec it was about 110 but was down to 74 yesterday. However last time at the vets my BF took him and he is always a lot more relaxed with me plus as I said he wasn't quite as fit and active then! I am sure if they took his heart rate again...

    Slow heart rate - experiences?

Hi Joanne I have been looking into this all morning and yes you are right - if they are fitter they tend to have slower resting heart rates and whippets in particular tend to have slower rates than other breeds...Some racing whippets are away down in the 40's! So I am not so worried now. he...

    Slow heart rate - experiences?

Does anyone's dogs suffer from a slow heart rate? Cash was at the vets yesterday re his seizures and his heart rate has slowed down since his last visit (its now at 74) she assures me there is no immediate cause for concern but that it should be monitored. I asked if there was anything to...

Update on seizures - cash has epilepsy!

We went to the vets last night where they took bloods to rule out there being anything underlying that could cause the seizures. There was nothing to worry about in the bloods so vet has diagnosed idiopathic epilepsy. She doesn't feel he needs to be on medication just now but if they become...

    Experience with english bull terriers?

I do adore staffies and we have discussed the possibility of those too! I think that may be what we end up getting. I just love the EBT and their little faces but a staffy will be much easier to rescue I think and they are not so stubborn as the EBT...we already have a stubborn Akita lol..

    Experience with english bull terriers?

Does anyone have an English bull terrier/experience of the breed? My boyfriend is looking for a friend for his Akita. I have 2 whippets who she gets on great with but feel she needs something a bit "sturdier" to play with (plus she can't keep up with the pace of the whippets when they have a...

Playing detective with my dog re seizures

My little boy...its funny I have rehomed/rescued many many dogs and love them all equally but I have such a special bond with this boy! I don't know if its the circumstances in which I got him or just the fact we have been through so much together (I was in a terrible marriage and when my...

Playing detective with my dog re seizures

I know the name of the breeder and can find him on "whippet archives" but there are no contact details...the closest I can get for a contact is the owner of his half brother

Playing detective with my dog re seizures

So...after Mr Cash had, what I believe to be, his first seizure last year, followed by another last night and has been diagnosed as idiopathic seizures, naturally I have been doing a bit of research. As is probably obvious it is recommended that dogs diagnosed with the above should not be used...

    Another seizure. ..

Yeah my BF took him to the vets last time and they said it is worse for us to watch than it is for the dog! And after a good nights sleep he is back to normal today good as new!!! Its so strange I just hope he isn't going to be prone to them regularly! He is such a playful active little soul xx

    Another seizure. ..

My little boy had another seizure earlier. He had one late last year and vet diagnosed an idiopathic seizure which is apparently not dangerous and fairly common and could affect him regularly or never again...he is shattered now poor boy. See if the vet says different this time :(

    First chicken wing!

Well done you! It's a start. My two love a wing and I agree their little faces light up when they are crunching the bone...I was worried my first time but now I don't think twice I just throw them in their bowl (then usually have to clean the floor afterwards)

Success with the akita and raw!

Great thanks! I just want to make sure they are getting all that they need! I have never seen the fresh sardines but I will have a look next time as my dogs love the tinned ones so I am sure they would go mad for fresh!!!

Success with the akita and raw!

I am so glad I switched to raw! I was still giving a very small amount of kibble too but the whipplets have now decided it is rubbish in comparison and refuse to eat it! :) which is fine by me excuseme I was hoping you could help me though. I have an ongoing concern that hey are not getting...

Success with the akita and raw!

A couple of you commented on a previous post of mine about kibble for my BF's akita while I tried to get a bit of raw in her! She has been getting Canaghan kibble but I have been giving her bits of whatever raw my whippets get and she has finally started eating the raw meat better and even had...
