Hi, and welcome to the forum. It's an interesting idea, not that I'm planning on getting a dog for the foreseeable future. How would you liaise with the different rescue organisations? Would they be providing you info on the dogs they have available on an ongoing basis, or would you take the...
In our local shops it's easy to get stuck behind some old person having a good natter with the person serving them - I have to remind myself that this is all part of community. And the greengrocer can natter on for hours when I just wanted to buy my veg and go! The lovely part is that in the...
Technology has been 'taking jobs away from people' since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Or much sooner, when the printing press saved scribes from having to write every copy of a book individually. Now, if those cashiers could be employed in the NHS... Though the former cashiers do...
I love the idea of the parrot chattering on in the middle of the night! I suppose the time to try out a stairgate would be now, before it becomes a necessity. Then if it doesn't work you could hopefully come up with a plan B before you do need it.
Can you block off the stairs so he can't go up them? If he's used to sleeping in your room at night, one of you could sleep downstairs with him. The stairs are a worry - when my dog's legs started to go, he could get upstairs, but not back down again.
It could be nothing, or it could be something... You do really need to show it to your vet, as it's not really possible to diagnose spots and lumps from a photo. Fingers crossed he's absolutely fine :-)
How old are your children? And when she bites, does she draw blood, leave red marks, or what?
Sometimes you can beat your head to a pulp trying to work out why your pet is the way they are. But often, you're never going to find the answer, and the most successful approach is to avoid the...
Hmmm, I can't really see any red flags there. I do wonder if your children's anxiety is having an effect on her, though obviously they wouldn't have become scared of her if she wasn't already showing these behaviours. And of course they can't stop being scared. Does she behave differently...
A few questions:
1. Has she had a full vet check? As well as checking for anything that might cause her discomfort, ideally the vet would also check her bloods - thyroid levels can cause behavioural issues, and there may be other conditions that play a part.
2. What do you feed her? Please give...
I'm still caught out when my granddaughter doesn't respond to 'Wait!' 'Cross over' (a road) is another word that I've transferred from Jasper to her, but I'm sure there are more.
I'm so sorry to read this. There is absolutely no need to apologise for this being your first post - it's such a difficult time for you.
They do say that it's better a week too early than a day too late, and from my own experience I would agree with that. Yes, he might pick up and have a few...
From the first page of the survey: 'You have been asked to take part because you are female over the age of 18, and are contemplating purchasing a Pug (e.g. in the next 12 months) and currently or have previously owned a Pug'.
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for the loss of your 2 cairns, but Rolo will bring you such joy :) If you have the time, we would love to see some photos of him.
Thank you Flobo :) I would be cautious of any study that didn't use controls and a double-blind approach - i.e. giving some dogs dummy pills, and not telling the owners whether they were having the dummy pills or not - because it's very easy for the owner to think that every 'good' moment the...
Sometimes, what is needed is strict crate rest, and keeping the dog on lead all the time he is out of the crate, even in the house - though this would be extremely difficult and stressful with a lively pup. Whether you should do this, and for how long, would be a question for your vet and/or physio.
Yes, you do have to be quite abrupt with people who won't keep their distance. I once had a woman come up to mine, put a hand either side of his face and lean right in to him before asking, 'Why does he wear a muzzle?' I mean really?
My guess is that if you can leave her for up to an hour, it...
It's such a difficult position to be in. I can't say what the best course of action is, but I really sympathise.
I also made mistakes when choosing my pup, though my mistake was in choosing the lively one, not realising that these pups were already very high voltage. His issues were very...
