I'd suggest to you that it would be a different Whippet if you consider any one of these.

At the moment we can gain access on Thursday, 25th Aug around noon
and the organisers would like us off by Tuesday, 30th Aug. However, this all depends on the weather.

As Racing Manager Paul Chappell felt that the fair way to do the draw is that you pick the colour of the coated dog that will go into the traps in turn - If fact this is the German way the draw is done. The committee agreed to the final...

Don't think anyone has suggested that its broken.
It is just trying to have a level playing field for all runners.
But I note you are not keen on the draw for the final traps - what do others think.
The fact that you are drawn to race in the first race is therefore random.
The fact that you may win (or get runner-up) in the first race - gets you into the red in the semis - this can also be consider as semi random as only dogs drawn in the first race can get the red coat in the semi. But...
